A fitting testament to an excellent album by one of the greatest bands ever.

Moving Pictures re-enters the Billboard 200 chart at #11. As well #18 on Artist 100, and #1 on the Top Rock Albums chart.

All due to the Moving Pictures 40th Anniversary Box Set released 2 weeks ago.

Hell yeah, Neil was a bedwetting progressive, just like me.

I’m guessing you never looked into the reason behind that Ayn Rand credit enough to figure out Rush are not at all in alignment with her politics? Neil put that there for a couple specific reasons: 1. because he really enjoyed her novels, and the whole band felt inspired by her idea of artistic freedom and not catering to what society would seem to want you to create, and 2. The plot of 2112 is highly reminiscent of the plot of her novelette Anthem, which Neil only came to realize when the album was nearly complete, so in order to avoid a plagiarism accusation, he gave her credit in the liner notes. If you read up on Rush’s and Neil’s politics, especially some years down the road when Neil had gotten past his Ayn Rand phase in his reading hobby, you’ll find that they are absolutely not aligned to her super right wing views. In fact Neil’s more humanitarian world view came out very clearly in a lot of his lyrics post Moving Pictures. You may not care for the music, but take a look at the lyrics to songs like Second Nature, Heresy, The Garden, and Nobody’s Hero. Neil wasn’t at all like Ayn Rand in his political views, he often wrote about wanting to help people who were less fortunate, and about the importance of human compassion and empathy. Ayn Rand forfeit those values in favor of pure independence. All Rush ever wanted was artistic independence.

Pretty much sums it all up.....You don't have to dive too deep into the lyrics to understand where Neil's mind was at while writing for Rush.

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I'm not gonna post all the stuff in the massive MP 40th Anniversary Box Set, but here are a couple. So glad I bought this, I kinda waffled back and forth about it originally. It is now sold out from Rush Backstage, maybe still available on Amazon or record stores but I've seen it on Discogs already for $400+ on secondary market.

The live material is excellent! Neil's kit is right up front in the mix and so is Alex's guitar, I always felt on Exit...Stage Left Alex was a bit lost in the mix, not here.
The hardback book is a massive treat, all those pics from 1981 MP Tour just bring back sooo many amazing memories of that tour. I was a 16-17yr old teen in total fascination of Rush at that time, saw that tour at the Forum in LA.

I've listened to some of it and it's all fine and good, not sure I'm going to buy it yet. I do like the singer, she has a good presence.
Unfortunately for Alex I think he will be going on the road soon to play this stuff live, although still would not be surprised if he does not as so many will be expecting Rush material as well. But he can't deny the other younger band members the opportunity to play live......I'm sure he is torn.

FOUND IT! CD is still MIA, but I found my old vinyl of A Farewell to Kings.

Think it rates a good play for a Thursday night.

Ohhhhh yessss....Cool

Me! It looks like I'll have to re-set my password  or something. Maybe I won't though since I'm kind of bored with that place anyway.
I've never been able to get in and create an acct.....Not missing anything it seems.

I wonder what your issue was. I don't remember having any trouble signing up whatsoever. Someone as big of a Rush fan as you should definitely be on there but that's just my opinion. Wink
I really do not need another forum to remember to go to, PA can be a PITA sometimes but I keep coming back as I've been here awhile. SHF is my other main site for music discussions, and there are some long Rush threads to read and participate in on occasion, there is one called Rush Album By Album, Song by Song that is about 500 pages long. Shocked
As well there are like 812,000 open threads on the Beatles, for those of you that like that krapp, it's a veritable on going Beatles circle jerk in those threads LOL Thumbs Down

I think I'm good.....

Ok. Well, I think you can still read the posts on TRF even if you aren't a member. They changed the site so now it could be easier to join (or not). However, if you aren't interested, you aren't interested. You can lead a horse to water........;)

Have any fans tried the Rush Golden Ale or the Rush Moving Pitchers strong ale? Are they only available in Ontario?

Not my bag. I'm glad Alex is doing something, but what I've heard sounds really "90s"!
