If Therion develop from a Death Metal band into a Symphonic Metal band, then that is a definite improvement from my point of view.

No, it's not what you've been told. You were told to stick with their progressive rock albums, I'd be surprised if you dislike those. And you've been told to avoid their death metal work, everyone knows you dislike that kind of music. As for Therion, I didn't tell you they improve, jut that they developed and changed their sound, being one of the creators of the symphonic metal style/genre.

I take modern prog to be neo prog, but Script and Lush Attic are a tie for me, so no vote.

No, I said The Quest is the best YES album ever - and I still genuinely believe that - so it's hardly surprising that I get criticised for my eccentric tastes in music.

I still have Opeth's debut to look forward to, so it remains to be seen whether I'll think they're 'opeless too, although I've heard they get better as they go along. I almost wrote off Therion after hearing their first monstrous album, but Cristi tells me they improve with age, like a fine wine.

I'm sure they'll wear it as a badge of honor.

The Cardiacs obviously have a heart-felt following here amongst their many fans, but having listened to their crazy carnival debut and given it the thumbs down, it doesn't bode well for me liking the other three Avant Prog bands in the poll either:- Guapo; Swans & Thinking Plague.

^ I think Opeth are 'Opeless but I never mention it... that said, I have least since them live and suspended judgement until then.

I don't think you're criticized for liking it, but maybe because you say it's one of their best and even said it's Yes's best album for a while.

I generally don't criticise people's taste in music... people's tastes are what they are. I just accept that your taste in music doesn't include the more avant-garde side of prog. |

Getting emotional? Exaggerating much? You are abusing them and sometimes I think you don't use them right. It gets annoying after a while.

You're the only person I know who gets all emotional about the use of emoticons.

I haven't heard carnival music as cranky as that since Fred Karno's Circus, and that's going back a good while. Some people have criticised my favourite YES album - The Quest - but I just think, so what, get over it.

I'm not familiar with Cardiacs debut album, but I do find it interesting that you describe Cardiacs music as "sounds like a bunch of circus clowns performing at some manic carnival" because I recently suggested on the forum that the homogenous combination of prog and punk probably sounds like carnival music. |

Adore Cardiacs, Tim's writing is genius, one of my biggest regrets is not discovering them in time to see them. Calling the singer terrible and the music tuneless is ridiculous. So you don't like it, so what.

There's no need to get all emotional about emoticons. The green emoticon was supposed to mean I felt a bit queasy after taking a crazy waltzer ride with the Cardiacs manic debut. ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - April 04 2022 at 04:05 |

Listening to bands and albums that others enjoy here is a great way for me to discover new music, even if it's not always music I enjoy too. Vive La Difference!

Stop using the "thumbs down" emoticon after explaining why you dislike something, it feels aggressive and also arrogant in this particular context. Plus you used the "dead" emoticon already, that's hatred abuse TBH.
