Nice idea for a poll.  I had a few ideas, the first to come to mind was Com Truise's Data Kiss, but I suggested that in an earlier poll.  This by Ciśnienie was one of the next ones to come to mind -- I played this not long ago on the road.  I often do like to play "longer" tracks while driving.  I had planned to save this for a later round, a sort of music that builds up one, and it is pretty long, but I will mention it now instead... I nominate...

On the road, I like some straight ahead rock music. I also like the obvious 'popular' stuff like Highway to Hell, Highway Star, and Heading Out to the Highway.

Maybe not as well known, this act was big in their native Australia, but didn't take hold outside. Known as the Angels in Australia, but due to other actsand copyrights, they were known as Angel City here in America.

This is a great road song that I can crank up and to which I imagine going off to the south of France.

Regarding Kansas, I can understand, but the first video doesn't show up to me... Can you give us band/artist and title?

I have some 20 or 30 CDs in my car that I like to listen to when driving, going from King Crimson, Yes, Marillion, Twelfth Night to REO Speedwagon, The Tindersticks and even Steve Reich's Four Organs (actually quite suitable for driving!)... No, surprisingly, no Nena... Confused

Now, for my suggestion I'm going for an album (because also in my car I'm mainly listening to albums, if it is not the radio) that I listen to quite regularly while on the road. I was hesitating between the title track of the album or this one - the whole album is fantastic, imo.

I have made 50 mixed CDs of what I call Travel Music.  It is mostly accessible pop and Classic Rock that my girlfriend tends to enjoy and generally won't complain about unlike with my usual fair.  Most discs include a song from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, Chicago, Journey, Billy Joel, and Elton John on them with songs interspersed by all the various other Classic Rock artists.  We were watching an infomercial selling 6 discs of all of the best loved AOR songs from the 70's and 80's, and just about all of them make the CDs at one point or another (I should note that the first 20 or so were actually burned and played as CDs.  I added my aunt's paintings as artwork for each disc.  After that they are all really just MP3 playlists of CD length).

Some listening time, so I listened...

JD: Two tracks I'm very familiar with, both with some wonderful organ work. Those instant classic guitar licks in Lazy add much to this classic Deep Purple piece (and there are also some amazing live versions...). Regarding Kansas, this is from my favorite album of them and I would choose this track over the DP one.

Lorenzo: I'm generally not that fond of baroque music. This is a rocky hoompa version of baroque; a bit too heavy on the clichés to my liking.

Greg: Never heard of this band. The track has a nice grumpy bass sound underneath it accompanying the trombone (?) in the first part. Then more brass (I guess; clarinets, oboes...?) and synths lead to the marching part with drums and bass slowly building up the tension (and speeding up). Very atmospheric and rich sounding brassy post-rock. You really have to keep control over your steering wheel with this one. Great track!

George: Hehe, I was expecting something more French (apart from some words spoken in that language), but it is very Anglo-saxon rock 'n roll. Maybe not very original, but damn pleasurable, indeed. A bit Speedwagony, so, I like it!

I've already selected from this album in an earlier interactive poll. However, this track has always reminded me of driving along the motorway south of Sydney when I was young, especially the section starting from 4:18 in the video. I love that driving groove, and this track is my favourite from the album.

I'm a bit late to the party and didn't have much time to think about what to share. As I'm getting ready to head south this spring, I randomly picked a couple of tracks from my playlist that I'm about to create for that trip. My private 'soundtrack', so to speak. Smile

Masego, Don Toliver: Mystery Lady


I recently attended Masego's concert in Zurich, my first concert after the pandemic, yay! I've been a fan from the start. Such a talented and innovative guy. He blends genres such as trap, house and jazz creating an emotive future r&b fusion. Meanwhile he's gained widespread attention so some of you may know him already but hey, this is from a playlist for a road trip.

Bab L'Bluz: Ila Mata


These guys are a relatively recent discovery. They are a Moroccan-French band that blends rock and blues with traditional oriental and West African sounds.

Really glad you enjoyed it Kees. I like this kind of repetition, and I love the way it builds to this rather "wall of noise" type crescendo. Such music approaches fit me well when driving, as it can invigorate me (Cardiacs' "Dirty Boy" has been a car standard and various Swans of late). At other times I just want more calm music, and the music I play in the car depends on if I have passengers. If my wife is in the car, then I'll be more likely to put on John Denver and The Carpenters.
