So, the situation in the world made me decide against the poll theme that I originally had in mind. Instead here's something that allows us to express our feelings, be it to do with what is going on in Ukraine, be it regarding something else, or just the mood of the moment.

The poll theme is "suggest music that expresses well your feelings of the day/the hour/the moment". This can be in whatever way, for example it can be the lyrics, or it may not have to do with the lyrics at all. It's really for you to choose. There is no restriction  regarding musical styles or anything else. The only rule is that you play something that you think reflects well how you feel when you post it. I know that emotions can change fast so if you find a track that worked five minutes ago and your feelings change while you post it, that's still fine. Tracks of artists that are on PA are admissible, however remember the poll series is most worthwhile when we get to know music that we hadn't heard before, so try to avoid what you believe many may know (although if you feel that such a track would be exactly right in that moment, so be it).

You can suggest one to three tracks (post youtube videos or, if not available, something else everyone can liusten to such as a bandcamp link); however if you suggest more than one, I'd hope that you wait until your mood has changed enough that another track seems right. I think I'd like that more than posting a collection of three reflecting the same feeling. You can of course talk about your feelings if you want.

Ultimately every participant will nominate one of their suggested tracks for inclusion in the poll (this doesn't necessarily have to be decided based on the emotion of the moment when you decide). I'll hope to start the poll with all nominations in on Monday 7 or Tuesday 8 March (until then we just play the suggested music to each other, and there may be reactions that can help you picking a nomination). Then vote for your three favourites (not including your own nomination). 

Here's my first. This reflects well how the Ukraine situation is turning around in my head. Also it has a very fitting title.

My recent thoughts & feelings are mostly about the current war.

Here's a part from the lyrics of the song I share:

"All our visions of sweet tomorrow
is cracking and fading away.
Hopes of glory are drowned in sorrow
this dissension expels us to yesterday."

And this part bitterly can be translated to today. Just change nobles with politicians.

"Do you hear the clarion call,
it's calling out to one and all.
Our blood must be spilled
so the nobles' visions can be fulfilled."


Please be patient till the vocals chime in. They are not typical power metal vocals. The singer is actually a theatre actor.

I should say I for sure don't think it's necessarily easy. Even the act of thinking about the task and selecting a track and posting it can put the "true feelings in the moment" in the background. Also I'm aware that "reflecting my own feelings" is a certain mode of listening to music and there are many others.

And I'm aware that trying at the same time to post something that is new for the others (and maybe diffent from all the stuff that has been in the polls before) to some extent compromises "what expresses my feelings best". Unfortunately in this respect it's natural that polls become harder and harder because we have all posted already so much music in earlier polls...

The "easy" thing about the topic is that you don't have to be perfectionist, you don't have to justify your choices, so ultimately you can choose something that makes some sense to you, and nobody will question whether it "really" fits the topic.

Mixed feelings, between anger, sorrow, despair and hope... So this one represents all that:
In an earlier poll I already nominated a track by Lluís Llach, L'Estaca. Llach is undoubtedly the most famous Catalan singer-songwriter. The present composition - in four mouvements - was written during the night following the "events" in Vitoria Gasteiz in March 1976 (a couple of months after Franco's death, in what is called the "transition period", leading up to democracy) during which armed police teargassed and shot on hundreds of people who had sought refuge in a church (five dead and more than a hundred injured...). This excerpt is from a beautiful documentary La revolta permanent (directed by Lluís Danés) about these events and the coming into being of this composition. This is a live rendition and it starts off with a bit of talking (first in catalan, then Llach's spoken introduction in Spanish - and the crowd chearing at one point in Basque: "The people will not forget!"). The music starts at a bit over 3 minutes and you can find a translation of the lyrics here.

A second selection from me, which comes from a similar mix of feelings as the first. I realise that the idea, if we provide more than one selection, is to expose different emotions and feelings - but really, my mind is filled with thoughts for Ukraine. For those I know who live there, those I know who no longer live there, but still have family there, and all Ukrainian people in general.

I have provided a Bandcamp link, because I could find no video on YT that includes the vocals performed by Nana Valishvili.
