As he's wanted to leave this band since 1965 then saying alive is his penance. Sorry Pete but there's only one way out and it not yet. Not by a long way. Oh no.

No.
He's not a mass murderer or dictator (slightly redundant). We all will eventually, and that's why we need to enjoy all the great music we can!

I wouldn't mind living longer than a typical human being does. Preferably with a body that is fit enough to do what I want. I wouldn't run out of things to do or try anytime soon.

Sex addiction. I'm not a guy, so I cannot relate. But, I've seen oodles of men with sex addictions. All kinds. Some veer toward child porn. That said, I'd give my eye teeth to watch Pete play live from a front row seat in 1971. Amazing!

God knows, but I think she might be referring to Townsend’s related claims of abuse he suffered as a child. It certainly has naff all to do with any drug addiction. That came years after for him.

I wonder if Pete wrote A Quick One about his addiction. I know Pete wrote it about a guy who like to diddle a little, but maybe Pete's fantasy's factored into A Quick One?

Yea, I was a little bored when I read the article and posting it like that just seemed to be the thing needed to break the boredom.

A - The title was a sarcastic play on words as you eluded to in your opening sentence. B - So my next topic should be "Does 'former' prince Andrew deserve to die?"

The piece suggests that 'he doesn't deserve to be alive' NOT that 'he deserves to die' . I think that subtle change of wording for the thread title is quite emotive tbh. Partly he says that because of the booze and drugs and hard partying as much as the personality thing. He think he is suggesting that better him (dying) than someone else with more moral fibre. I think that is quite common a feeling but he also admits that he has been a more useful member of society in the last 20 years than before. The raw honesty is good but then also common as you get close to checking out. At least he has contributed to art and that puts him way above certain members of the royal family who few would miss if they weren't around!

It's certainly a great song and like much of Townshend's best work, autobiographical in nature and, unusually for the habitual machismo realm of rawk, sung in the vulnerable first person ('I') about feelings of inadequacy, a search for a sense of belonging and dealing with persecution (Pete was mercilessly bullied as a schoolboy because of his appearance)

I'm not really the greatest Who fan, but he wrote Substitute and for that he deserves to live forever.

The concept of death and the concept of "deserving" are alien to each other.
