You can always add something in "edit" - as you know. Smile

you said 15 albums, I made a 15 albums list.

I could make a 15 albums list for every metal subgenre I enjoy. LOL

Keeping in mind that I haven't listened to much metal for a few years, off the top of my head, leaving out most what I consider more hard rock or proto-metal, the list would be something like this:

Shared 1st place:

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

The rest in alphabetical order, one album/band:

Amorphis - Karelian Isthmus
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Barathrum - Infernal
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Convulse - World Without God
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Death - Human
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Goatlord - Reflections of the Solstice
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Morbid Angel - Covenant
Skepticism - Stormcrowfleet
Unholy - From the Shadows

Please don't ask how I define metal vs hard rock or proto-metal or whatever. I don't know.

I'll try and go for 15 non-prog albums:

Black Sabbath: Heaven & Hell
Black Sabbath: Headless Cross
Blind Guardian: A Night At The Opera
Epica: Design Your Universe
Therion: Theli
Therion: Vovin
Dark Moor: Tarot
Judas Priest: Painkiller
Kamelot: The Black Halo
Iron Maiden: Seventh Son
Metallica: Paster Of Muppets
Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime
Within Temptation: The Unforgiving
Nightwish: Wishmaster
Rainbow: Rising (Ok, it's Hard Rock!)

In no particular order, of course...

Here's something I wrote in another thread but I'd like to quote it in this thread as well:
Originally posted by David_D David_D wrote:

The fact how much the music is based on Blues can't IMO be the central point of Metal definition because if it was, we couldn't
distinguish between Metal and other very little Blues-based genres.
As I see it, more central points are heavy, aggressive power-chord based riffs with a lot of distortion, specific rhythms
and drumming styles.
And these points show very significant difference between early 1970s Black Sabbath and say Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

I find all this important to state in order to give Black Sabbath the credit as the main inventor of the Metal style.

I find also Master of Reality together with Vol. 4 to be the crucial albums, and not Paranoid or debut.
