^  I just wish he'd made more albums like that TBH, and concentrated on quality over quantity.

I hardly dare to think how everything will look in 50 years, if to see it from the perspective of today. The changes will very probably be much much larger than the last 50 years, and in what direction? Smile

I agree but I'm quite fond of No Earthly Connection, as well.

I'm especially happy to see this one, Progishness, as we'll very probably only be few to list it.

I decided to omit it on the grounds that it's not in the PA top 250 although it does have a strong rating of 4.10 and probably isn't far outside. (I realise you didn't specify the rules of the thread so I made my own)

Rick's studio albums are generally under appreciated it seems

My rule, written in the OP, is "by "great classics" I mean albums that are very high rated by really many people", and that is thought as making it possible to include RYM ratings - it's not just "PA great classics", I've had in mind.

This rule is of course not particularly precise, and that is because I've thought, it is fine to leave good possibilities for one's own decisions concerning what to include or not.

About "under appreciated", I'd say that it's a subjective evalution, richardh, and I think that it may be a good question to concider why Wakeman isn't higher rated than it's the case - even he was one of my teenage idols, and maybe your's as well. Smile

I've restricted myself to albums before 1980. Also, I've grouped albums by the same artist together. Thus, the order doesn't fully match my order of preference.

01: Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
02: Van der Graaf Generator - H To He, Who Am The Only One
03: Van der Graaf Generator - The Quiet Zone / The Pleasure Dome
04: Van der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other

05: Peter Hammill - pH7

06: Yes - Close To The Edge
07: Yes - Fragile

08: Bill Bruford - Bruford: One Of A Kind

09: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
10: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery

11: Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge Of Time

12: Nektar - Journey To The Centre Of The Eye

13: Supertramp - Crime Of The Century

14: Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

15: Genesis - Nursery Cryme
16: Genesis - Foxtrot

17: Pink Floyd - Animals
18: Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

19: The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot

20: Camel - Mirage

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Henry Cow - Western Culture (128)
I'll give it a listen, as I've only tried the previous albums - now I can see so many of the same albums in our lists, and I'm fond of others in your list.

It's a difficult masterpiece, took me a decade to get it but boy now I get so much repeat delight in listening now.

I can tell you, Nogbad, that I keep on working but it's certainly a challenge - even not as much as the big Western culture. Star
I'm yet far from to decide whether I want to do this album a part of my rather small, exclusive collection, but it would be a very good supplement to my other RIO/Avant and Zeuhl albums.

Mea culpa … Either I didn’t see the UK part, or I did … but then forgot due to short term memory loss. Call it the fog of covid. These are in no particular order. I forgot to include Kate Bush.

ELP - Brain Salad Surgery
ELP - Tarkus
Yes - The Yes Album
Yes - Fragile
Yes - Close to the Edge
Yes - 90125
Camel - The Snow Goose
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
UK - UK
Allan Holdsworth - IOU
Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatigue
The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card
The Alan Parsons Project - Eye in the Sky
Kate Bush - The Hounds of Love
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
King Crimson - Discipline
Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood

I would love to include other albums:
Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Genesis - Foxtrot
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Genesis - Nursery Cryme
Genesis - ABACAB
King Crimson - Red
King Crimson - Three of a Perfect Pair

And yes, I am a big fan of Canadian rock and Prog: Rush, Triumph, Saga, Red Rider, Aldo Nova, etc.

Thanks for pointing out the error Cristi. At least I didn’t list all the albums from the band UK and struggle to come up with 20.

I’m heading out for a few months. You all take care!
