To be honest, I have quite a bit of difficulties with understanding what all these polls are about. So will you guys please tell me about it...and I promise, it's not a part of subcaltcha. Edited by David_D - February 09 2022 at 08:39 |

Each and every poll has its own "about". They have been a part of the internet forums since... forever, maybe. They are for fun, for me. They also can show the tendencies and the preferences of the forumers. It is nice. I love polls.

Ultimately, they mean very little however it is a fun way of being able to keep the forums active with conversation. If you think about how many members are active at any one time, the forum area can go a bit stale after a while? Not everyone wants to write three paragraphs of text with every contribution, or they'd get put off participating... so, they are ephemeral but enjoyable and arguably necessary fluff....

Over in General Music Discussions (sub-listed under Other music related lounges), we have (mostly) non-prog polls (all labeled with "Interactive)." Each one has a different theme, chosen by whichever presenter is up for their turn, with some various different rules than the standard rules.
Standard rules are it must be something you love that fits the category, usually you can offer up 3, sometimes lesser-known prog is allowed. After listening, you can comment and discuss the selections (if you wish, and have time), then when notified, select which of your choices you want to subject to voting. There's an Interactive Poll Team thread, where we handle whose turn it is, etc. It's run differently than the "just vote for this or that," polls, and most just enjoy the sharing of music, as opposed for "winning." When we have a prog poll to do in like manner, we put it up under "Prog Polls."

It's a deep pipeline that goes into the arithmetic cheeks and the "concatenate cow rabbit cube trash simillimum" in our heads. It's fun and sort of like looking through eyes and smelling with noses.

My friend, in many ways. For others they can be informative, annoying etc. too. I just have fun with the polls. They surely can be informative, annoying etc. for me too, but in general I find polls fun. |

For fun, express tastes/opinions, talk to other members, etc. Many things can come from a poll, not just who likes or dislikes what.

Sometimes polls stimulate discussion without a vote ever being cast, like some of my duff polls for instance.

My main purpose for creating polls is to see how soon they can disappear to the second page to never ever be seen again.

well, if your polls were about prog rock bands, rather than your underwear selections...
