Before I Wake (2016 - US): Surprisingly better than most pretentious horror movies behind a scary façade, whilst displaying all manner of American supernatural horror flick clichés. It is not perfect, but a very well crafted film. Congrats Mr. Flanagan! The future of horror lies in your hands! 8.5/10

I did note The Guilty was a remake, but as I haven't seen it then I can't let that colour my view.

Most US remakes I've seen of 'foreign language' films aren't that bad and sometimes are as nearly as good although rarely better. Your comment suggests that the original is a 10/10 so we'll go with that(?)

Knives Out (2019)- Jamie Lee Curtis,  Daniel Craig, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, etc
Old style murder mystery set in modern times mostly at a famous mystery writer's house(Christopher Plummer). The plot was given away  about halfway into the movie and Craig had this odd southern accent playing a 'southern gentleman private detective'.  Not sure if this all worked. 7/10

One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Lunopolis (2010 - US): I could stomach only 53 minutes of this crap. A bunch or malarkey. Hey, the Americans got help from the aliens, otherwise they wouldn't possess this advanced technology. Hey, the Egyptian pyramids were humanly impossible to build then, so aliens, beyond a shadow of a doubt, helped in that. Hey, that national hero was chosen and allocated a mission by the divine powers. No ordinary human could have done those. Hey, octopuses are from the outer space. They are beyond worldly "designs". Add time travel to those, and you get this bullsh*t film. Hey, Copernicus was sent from the future... This attitude and such beliefs undoubtedly reflect the lack of faith of the conspiracy theorists in humanity. You can enjoy this movie, if you find such GARBAGE beliefs plausible. 1/10

Note: Only the part about Copernicus and the Egyptian pyramids were mentioned in the movie (that I couldn't even finish); and funnily, I guessed the latter before seeing the part about it. The unsurpassable predictability of the conspiracy theorists...

Hm, that might be to generous... I said "minor" masterpiece, so I'd give it a 9/10 Wink and I guess that if the remake is true to the original, it might be as good. Gyllenhaal is a great actor anyway. It's more that I don't see much point in doing a remake that is like the original, but apparently there is a market for that kind of things (I don't mind subtitles and I'm more curious to see that remake out of "professional deformation"...).

Watched Don't Look Up on Netflix. Comedy about astronomers that discover a comet heading for earth.  Not bad, I'll give it a 7 / 10.  Pretty funny at times & there are a lot of parallels / metaphors alluding to  things like climate change & COVID deniers so there is some social commentary in there as well. Good cast including Leo DeCapero, Jenner Lawrence & Meryl Streep... Worth a watch.

Ghostland, aka Incident in a Ghostland (2018 - Canada/France): An extremely solid horror film that is truly macabre in nature. Pascal Laugier never disappoints. 9/10

IDK who the above person is. Clown

A vizsga (2011 - Hungary): It was fun to watch, but nothing that intriguing honestly. 6/10

Skeletons (2010 - UK): A pleasuresome British movie. Quite out of the ordinary, for me at least. A bit confusing though. Hard to pinpoint its genre. A comedy with a wry sense of humour, perhaps. 7/10

Cold Skin (2017 - Spain/France/US): It was good, but could've been great. The aquatic creatures were like mindless zombies, so the movie turned out to be like your typical shoot 'em ups (game). It was visually and audially great. I loved the location where it was filmed too. Also add good acting to those. 7/10

Freeze Frame (2004 - UK/Ireland): Darkly stylish psychological thriller. An extraordinary film in all aspects. 8/10

the Irrefutable Truth About Demons (2000) Directed by Glenn Standring

For a country that prides itself as being at the 'arse end of the world', New Zealand has a very fine cinematic horror tradition encompassing Deathgasm, What We Do in the Shadows, Perfect Creature, the Ferryman, Black Sheep, 30 Days of Night, the Dead Lands, Bad Taste, Braindead, the Frighteners and erm...Killer Sofa. All of the foregoing are very different in style, structure, budget, ambition and mood but what they do share is that signature Kiwi disdain for leaden gravitas and mindless good taste. They had to rename Standring's creation to The Truth About Demons for it's North American release but that tells you more about education standards in the USA than the movie itself. On a budget that was probably closer to C than B movie it somehow still manages to exploit it's meager resources in a hugely enjoyable and transparent way. It's campy, gauche, tacky, trippy and just a massive slice of dark fun all around. Karl Urban is the cult de-bunker (Harry) who manages to incur the wrath of what turns out to to be a bona fide Satanic Black Lodge led by a dead ringer for Anton Lavey (Jonathan Hendry) It's members however, make for some rather unconvincing and swarthy Gothic punks but as they don't feature very often it hardly matters. Love interest and recovering Satanist 'Benny' (Katie Wolfe) comes across like a solvent abusing Cinderella with boundary issues but you can't take your eyes off her for a second. Harry's erstwhile squeeze (Sally Stockwell) puts in a tour de force of manipulative, back stabbin' bitchiness aforethought here and is completely convincing as a massive two faced c*nt. Yes, there are some glaring plot holes and the performances of the mercifully short lived 'Thugs 4,5 & 6' and 'Harry's zany pal' cringe-worthy but Standring exploits our hero's recreational drug habit to set up a very effective 'is this real or is he just chipped off his tits?' kinda vibe. Leave your fancy learnin' in the foyer y'all as you will learn precisely zero about the occult from this but will certainly be entertained.

Dune (2021 - US/Canada): Safe & secure. A couple of strong scenes, but too many unconvincing ones overshadow them. I mean, those were not "weak", but rather subpar scenes for such a movie.  At least the budget was used wisely. An extravaganza that flows smoothly. Technically it was very impressive. A visual and audial feast for the respective senses. It also didn't make me say, "no sequels, pleaseeee!", which is nice. 7/10

I saw the silent film Un Chien Andalou I found out about through this site. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=35957. It was 15 minutes and was very confusing and creepy as well. There was the iconic scene where the man cuts off the woman's eye with a razor, then there was the guy who passed out on his bicycle, then there was this part where the abusive man tries to attack the woman. There is also a part when he pulls that piano that has creepy looking dead donkeys and priests tied around it being pulled as well. Then there is insects crawling all over this guy's hand. Oh my! Then she is in the bedroom with the other man(possibly the bicycle kid). Theres also this random scene at the beach where they are carrying a guy off after he is shot. Then the woman leaves the man while sticking her tongue out at him, and finds a man at the beach. The two walk and they live happily ever after? Nope! The two seemingly have died and are now being buried in sand. Now that is a creepy movie. It was something interesting. IF you want to see it, it is a silent film, meaning anyone can see it.

^ If you liked that film, then I can warmly recommend their subsequent film L'age d'or (1930) by the same Luis Buñuel et Salvador Dalí, thus. Maybe even more subversive...

Ok, now I saw that all the way through and liked it better than the other thing. I really liked the orchestral music in the movie. I liked how I needed to think while watching this thing and was rather interesting as well. Thank you. Smile

Case 39 (2009 - (US/Canada): And I was expecting a creepy movie... Big smile Problem Child (1990) with a horror twist. Ridiculously funny and entertaining. Thanks for the hilariousness. It had me rolling in the aisles. LOL 7/10

The Ladykillers (2004)
Comedy/Satire
Tom Hanks, Irma P. Hall
8/10

This Cohen Brothers film ticks all the boxes. Great characters played by great actors, wonderful cinematography, a quirky storyline and a fantastic conclusion.
A wonderful Saturday night movie the Mrs. and me.

No Time to Die (2021) Directed by Cari Joji Fukunaga

Premonitions of a woke, Vegan, Eco-friendly, feminist, 'designated driver in corduroy' Bond are mercifully unfounded but that said, retiree 007's replacement is black and female and Q is gay, still got gadgets but also hacking skills that make the Russian government look like Trump Atari enthusiasts. The 'will they won't they?' speculation re Bond and Moneypenny was put to (separate beds) a long time ago and Naomie Harris' role here is significantly diminished as a result. This is a pity as I enjoyed their flirtatious sparring as a welcome contrast to the otherwise unremitting albeit stunning action sequences.
In places, No Time to Die feels like either an attempted reboot of James Bond or a transparent concession to the leftist snowflake lobby by relinquishing some of the perceived toxic masculinity and misogynist baggage that has dogged the franchise to date. This ain't necessarily a bad thing as the louche and wise cracking bed-hopper 007 has now been supplanted by the uxorious stay at home Dad 007 with no discernible dip in enjoyment to report. Daniel Craig was probably the best thing to ever happen to the role as he gave a tired and dated series a shot in the arm by opening up the character to reveal flaws and vulnerability which clearly appeals to a younger audience. For me he's the best Bond ever and the only one that beneath the tux, resembles a real, thinking and feeling human being.
Note for non Brits: Ralph Fiennes' M is effete. Alan Rickman's Sherriff of Nottingham is camp.
Note to Self: the actress who plays Madeleine Swann is NOT Scarlet Johansson but Lea Seydoux
Every good Bond movie needs a good 'baddie' but the jury's still out on Lyutsifer Safin (Rami Malek) who has the speech impediment and unsightly skin condition boxes ticked but just seems about as threatening as the poster boy for the Burns Unit.
Nowhere near as good as Skyfall but probably better than Spectre, No Time to Die is certainly worth seeing but you will need to familiarize yourself with the previous four movies for some of the references to make complete sense. Daniel Craig says this is his last time as Bond but didn't Sean Connery have cause to say Never Say Never Again? If they're looking for a new Bond for the 26th iteration how about Stewie Griffin from Family Guy?. He's young, witty, outrageously camp, sexually ambivalent, an arms and technology expert, handy with his fists, a cross dresser, drives and has an English accent.
Billie Eillish sings the theme song which I didn't particularly care for and sounds as if she's just been woken from sleep to be burped. (not unlike Stewie)

Completely agree: a great film. The original (with Peter Sellers) was already very good, but this - rather free - remake by the Coen brothers is very entertaining! Great actor performances, indeed.

I think they shortened the title to 'Star Trek II - the Wrath of McCann' to appeal to the niche Scottish Inuit market.

Reminiscence (2021)- Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, Thandie Newton.
Good cast, decent production, interesting near future scenario but had a weak storyline for a thriller/mystery.
6/10
