This topic is about music by acts in PA that remind you of (is reminiscent to you of), is inspired by, covered by, references, and/or has an association with James Bond. It could be lyrically, musically, intentionally, unintentionally... A wide ranging topic; James Bond has had a long history with diverse artists/ composers writing music for it.
As an obvious one there is Radiohead's "Spectre" which was written for the James Bond film but not used. Bent Knee's "Leak Water" was reminiscent to me of James Bond music (especially around the 2:40 mark). Here is John Zorn's take on the James Bond theme: And Rocket Scientists cover of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hizl6rXBp2Q With Kate Bush's "James and the Cold Gun", (Happinesh ish a warm gun, bang bang shoot shoot, Mish Moneypenny) the title as well as certain lyrics made me think of James Bond, but some lyrics also made me think that it's not referencing James Bond. I don't think it is, and it reminds me of Westerns and apparently was inspired by the Day of the Jackal. If this: "Where lies your heart? It's not there in the buckskin, baby It's not there in the gin That makes you laugh long and loud" Were re-written as: "Where lies your heart? It's not there in the bucknaked babes, It's not there in the gin That makes you quip horrible puns when mixed with vermouth and shaken not stirred". Besides, he's more of a vodka martini man. By the way, I was inspired by THIS post by judahbenkenobi where he wrote that the new Alex Lifeson et al song "would be a good runner-up for a James Bond movie." That song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV-IZRh22mo I too can relate that to various James Bond music. And I read in a review that Tomas Bodin's "Harlem Heat" has James Bond qualities. It's a very open topic to suggestions as Bond theme flavourings can be diverse and in the ear of the behearer, not to mention covers and direct references and the like. Don't worry if it seems a stretch, or if James Bond having dispatched an adversary by strapping him or her to an extreme stretch fitness machine (the Rack 9000 series) and turning the dial to 11 for maximum stretch might say, "That was a stretch." Anyway, to reference a James Bond quote, I think you get the point. ![]() {edited for a couple of typos} Edited by Logan - January 30 2022 at 12:37 |

I think Lulu's "The Man Who Sold the World" would've been a great title for a Bond movie.

I can't think of anything prog but this is vaguely -
This was supposed to be the theme for that movie but for some reason they went with Lulu instead.

Alice Cooper - Unfinished Sweet |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

As perhaps we should not be Bonded to only acts in PA, I will move this to General Music Discussions.
I had heard that Alice Cooper "Man with the Golden Gun" Bond one before. There are so many not used in Bond films ones that I like. Scaramanga: "A duel between titans. My third nipple against your Walther PPK." Bond: "What? One bullet against your three nipples?" Scaramanga: "I only need the third one, Mr. Bond". I mentioned Radiohead's Spectre, but if you listen to Man of War, it also has a James Bond feel yo me, especially later on in the track (wouldn't be surprised if John Barry is cited as a Radiohead influence and they are often cinematic). And Big Boots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuITCjtfpqM Since a David Bowie cover was mentioned, there are a few Bowie's that I think could fit. Lady Grinning Soul: Not even Prog related by this site's standards, but Portishead is one of my very favourites, and I think it has Bond cinematic qualities in different songs (Sour Times, Glory Box, All Mine...). Bjork has James Bond thematic qualities to my ears (I love this): Edited by Logan - January 30 2022 at 15:25 |
