Does anybody know any similar songs (by Blue Oyster Cult) to that heavy part in Don't Fear the Reaper?

This is a pretty good song overall, but in the middle of the song comes from nowhere a really cool, Heavy, progy and Mysterious part... from where this thing came from all of a sudden??? I don't listen to them much but I have never ran across ANYTHING similar to this part by them.

How about the mass part(second half) of ELP's tarkus? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8vQ_7R5qN8

Since TFK was mentioned how about pretty much the entire title track to Retropolis?

That part in Love Supreme capture really good what I was meant, probably my favorite Flower Kings track. But does anyone know anything similar by the Blue Oyster Cult themselves?

I would listen to these two from Secret Treaties.......'Flaming Telepaths' and 'Astronomy' ,,,,both are long with some interesting sections in them.

One of my favorite later tracks by them,,, the outro from 4:00 on is excellent.

Alex Lifeson’s solo in YYZ sounds like it is in harmonic minor, and I believe the solo of Don’t Fear the Reaper is also in a harmonic minor key. That is a great song and an amazing solo. Mesmerizing. A lot of Iron Maiden and early Yngwie Malmsteen uses harmonic minor. And, an old Scorpion’s song has a solo that’s probably partly in harmonic minor called Sails of Charon. That is an incredibly fast and clean solo by Uli Jon Roth.

In the middle section of Reaper there is a Spanish rhythm pattern that has been cemented into the culture of Spain and Mexico. People who live there know the spirit of the exotic dance. It's like visiting Italy and discovering that children play the Spanish Ballad ( anonymous) on guitar. That particular piece is tied into Italy's culture. Most people in the Italy...North , South etc...know how to hum the tune. The piece is featured on Gravedigger by Janus.

The more progressive side to Blue Oyster Cult can be heard through albums ...Fire Of Unknown Origin when they were working with Michael Moorcock ( Sci-Fi writer) or certain tracks from Cultosorus Erectus are busy. Imaginos has a Progressive edge and the soundtrack for the movie Bad Channels actually had pieces that were instrumental and crossed into Prog and Electronic. There might be a few tracks on Revolution By Night .B.O.C. are surprising that way. It's not consistent because they are more of a straight forward Rock band....and ideas they write that sound progressive seem to guide you through a story. The subject matter of their albums ..
