That is kind of obvious, and I doubt anyone listening to it could not recognise it was written specifically for vinyl.

Hmmm, I don't know. If someone hasn't ever experienced vinyl, and came across this "gimmick" in the form it exists on CD or digital formats, would they recognise it for what it is? It is easy for those of us who have experienced this on vinyl to assume that it would be obvious even for those who only know CD or digital formats. But why would a person who only knows CD or digital even think that the track was intended continue ad infinitum?

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Because I’ve never played vinyl. I grew up on cassettes, and then CDs. I’ve never owned a record, but I still understand the concept of a runout groove.

Ahhh... where did you get the term "runout groove" from? Sounds like jargon to me, suggesting knowledge other people might not have. Anyway, it is probably futile to continue this "What Is It Like To Be A Bat" type debate.

My Mistake is one of Split Enz's funniest; especially the video. Cracks me up every time!

It's either your mistake or my mistake then! My mistake is very funny, but then the poll question is directed at Mental Notes which is the last song on the debut album in which the band sings the title song backwards. I don't particularly find the song funny, but maybe others do. However it's possible the person who constructed this poll made the mistake of including Mental Notes as the Split Enz song contribution when he actually meant to include My Mistake.

For me, that's the one song that won't let me enjoy Selling England as a Masterpiece it otherwise is (yah, I can even stand More Fool Me, even if I don't quiet like it).

An effervescing elephant riding a bike
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

If I could add one to the list it would probably be Montana by Zappa.
On an unrelated note, I'm watching Yellowstone now & I have yet to see one dental floss farm on the show.
Very disappointing!

Hi,

I was thinking that The Hamburger Concerto is funnier ... when the cook is singing and dancing while flipping burgers.
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Suit Fugue (Kevin Gilbert) is not only funny, it's a fantastic piece. It's an actual proper fugue (as far as I can hear, I haven't analyzed it in detail), it's excellent counterpoint, and it has a fantastic commentary on the music industry. The Shaming of the True is also an insanely underrated album, in the prog world and the music world in general—Kevin Gilbert was honestly unbelievably talented, his death was a huge loss of musical potential. Easy vote from me.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

I sort of feel the same way but Selling England is still 42 minutes without the Battle of Epping Forest, so enough of a masterpiece

I would vote for Split Enz's My Mistake if it was there. I ridiculously danced to that video a few new years eves ago.

In the end, I voted for Cat Food, but I don't know several songs on the list. Agree Elephant Talk would have been a good choice for KC. And for Procol Harum, I find Rambling On (from Shine on Brightly), about a man who sees a Batman movie and decides to fly, more funny than Mabel.

Nice, while we are at it, we might also remove More Fool Me too, then.

Wouldn't do a lot of harm to dump More Fool Me, but it does add a light romantic touch to an otherwise musically complex and artistically ambitious album.

Isn't most of Yellowstone in Wyoming?

Most of the Yellowstone National Park is in Wyoming but the show is set on a fictional cattle ranch called Yellowstone in Montana. ( No Dental Floss Yet. Cry )
