Topic: Age? Posted: June 21 2005 at 20:30 |
In this forum there seems to be a fair age range, is this the reason why many of the older groups are derided when newer groups are adulated. However, as this is not the rule. It would be interesting to know what the average age of the punter in here. Also, why do many people love ELP but hate Yes and Genesis and vice versa, i'm one of them, and what peculiarities makes them love or loathe certain bands. Finally, and i know this very old ground, why do some folks insist on sticking groups from another genre punted into prog.....most bizarre

Nope, there seems to be a peculiarty over those bands, all of them have brillaint musicians, and sonwriters. Few people seem to bridge the gap of enjoying all three bands. Why???????

I'm 26 and I gererally don't "hate" any of the music that I've heard that is
listed in the archives. I'm a big fan of all the major prog bands equally. I
really don't like one band over another, always open to new things. and
never judge anything by the first, second or third listen. I have a very
open mind when it comes to music...the only problem there is the hit I
take on the wallet for buying so much music...

I happen to like both ELP and Genesis, up to a certain point. After that point I shut my ears to both.

50 and counting. The older you get, the quicker it goes.

wow I'm almost 18, and regarding your question....
My three favorite bands happen to be:
- Yes / Genesis (Tie)
- ...
- ELP
So ya, I like all three....immensely. ELP is a far third behind Yes and Genesis though (they sound much more dated and silly than I guess they did in 1973, while I think Genesis and Yes's best Works hold up much better).
So far I haven't been able to find a modern band (post 70s) that has cracked my top 20 . So ya I'm young but I love the old stuff.
