Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of My Favourite Things..... Time for a breath of Pure Fresh Aire. This Premiere poll could well turn out to be both the first and last Classical Crossover poll, depending on how well (or how badly) it goes.

Not to worry. I have a feeling this poll will quickly fizzle out like a damp squib, but at least I had fun putting it together.

I used up all 25 available slots in the poll, so I'd have to delete someone to make way for Pavarotti as he takes up quite a lot of space. Maybe you'd like me to have included The Three Tenors too, although I could exchange them for six fivers if you like.

I gave the poll's first (!??) vote for North Star by Philip Glass, which I haven't actually listened to, but at least I'd like to, due to Mike Oldfield's Platinum. I do have several other works of Glass on my cd's, he's an excellent composer.
Didn't want to choose any of those few albums on the list that I have listened to (e.g. Sarah Brightman and Adiemus). |

The soundtrack album Koyaanisqatsi was my introduction to the wonderful music of Philip Glass, so I'll double down on your vote for North Star, which should give Philip Glass enough votes to win this poll easily, seeing as they may well turn out to be the only two votes in the poll as a whole.

I have Dead Can Dance filed under Neoclassical Dark Wave, although maybe I should have filed them together with The Zombies.

Jackie Evancho is an American singer who recorded her first album at the age of nine, a bit like the Welsh songstress Charlotte Church, who wrote her first autobiography at the tender age of twelve.

The soundtrack album, or the movie itself? For me, it was the movie that introduced me to the music of Philip Glass. If you only know the soundtrack album, then you really need to see the movie. And if you have any magical herbs, then they should be a part of your experience also. |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

You're right. I saw Koyaanisqatsi the movie first of all and then listened to the soundtrack album later, as well as the two follow up albums in the "qatsi" trilogy: Powaqqatsi & Naqoyqatsi. I also really enjoyed the Philip Glass soundtracks to The Hours, The Illusionist, Notes on a Scandal and The Truman Show, and all without the aid of any magical herbs.

Although North Star isn't the first Philip Glass album by a long way, it seemed like a good place to start with this series of polls, as I doubt very much if anyone would've voted for the minimalist and repetitive albums: Music in Similar Motion, Music in Twelve Parts or Music with Changing Parts, etc, etc.

Into the Labyrinth is the only Neoclassical Dark Wave album which I've found to like so far.
