See, I just don't think it's possible to vote impartially about the quality of music. It's always going to be subjective.

Everyone is calm. I just think you are asking us to state that one piece of art is somehow objectively better than the other (which is is kinda ridiculous)

Banks' solo immediately came to mind upon reading the question, so I strongly considered voting for it. But once I got Wakeman's solo, I have not been able to get it out of my head for two days. That compels me to vote for Rick.

You still don't understand. Of course impartial perception is subjective, I have never gone against that human thing. If I forbade you to be subjective when voting, I would have to expect a 100% to 0% result. Simply subjectivity is not synonymous with favouritism, and that's my point. There are some very basic songs that I like much better than some very advanced ones, for whatever reasons. If I had to vote for which is the better composition for me, I would put aside my bias. |

yeah Cinema show may well be his best. In the poll question, I think Wakeman's is better from the point of view of synchronicity with the other performers

Now I'm confused. Do you want us to vote on which option is technically more difficult, or more innovative, or some other measurable objective quality? Or are you indicating that the one we think is better is necessarily not the same as the one we like the best? Personally, if I like thing A better than thing B, it's because I think thing A is a better thing than thing B. It's all subjective for me.

I would argue Banks' is no less impressive for how he manages to pull off all of those 4/4 sounding lines over the 9/8 backing and move through all those different modes as well.

I would think Wakeman. The Church Organ alone should be enough to vote for him, and then here's the keyboard solo after it, and of course the keyboards at the itro.

agree and Rick does a lot of interesting things on the song--including synth effects and the spacey middle section and his solo is one of his best---along with Roundabout and Revealing solos.

On balance I think the Caped Crusader. On Close to the Edge he and Yes really brought out the best in each other and his organ and synth playing is superb. As good as Tony Banks was on Supper's Ready (especially Apocalypse in 9/8) there was better to come - Firth of Fifth and Cinema Show to name but two.
