Not sure if you guys watch any reaction videos on YT, but this guy is one of my favs. Doug has a doctorate in music, he composes music and has like 10yrs of schooling for his degree. I love that he dissects music and gives a perspective that for the unschooled music fan gives so much info on song creation. He also love lyrics and dives deep into the meanings.
He has been focusing a lot on progressive rock music. On Friday's he dedicates that to a long song/epics for a longer video. He has done Suppers Ready, CTTE, Octavarium, Spock's Beard......I am not sure I have seen any reactor do TFK..........This is excellent and he really sees how Roine creates such complex pcs and puts them together so very well
Enjoy!!
(BTW, I started a thread about his videos here if u wanna see more of them)

Hiya friends!

I've been getting back into Prog lately and have been enjoying Doug's Friday songs for a while now.  I was incredibly surprised when I saw TFK pop up on his radar and enjoyed the reaction imensely.

I'll echo what Catcher said above, Doug is a lot of fun to watch / listen to.  I don't listen to much on Youtube, Doug is one of the exceptions.

That being said, great to see this thread is still active.  It's what, like 13 years now!

I only do prog on M-W-F.....but I do The Flower Kings M-T-W-Th-F-S-Sun Tongue

Prog icons The Flower Kings are pleased to announce the release of their 15th studio album ‘By Royal Decree’, set for 4th March 2022. The band have also announced the first live dates in support of the album, taking place in Sweden beginning end of March 2022.
The band are back at their most creative, flowery and playful – mirroring the 70’s melting pot of folk, symphonic, electronic, jazz, blues, funk & prog. On the new album they have looked for more organic and vintage sounds, still centered around the foundation of drums, bass, guitars and the iconic Hammond, grand piano, mellotron & Moog synthesizers.
The album also sees the return of founding member Michael Stolt, who takes up bass guitar and vocal duties which he splits with long-time member Jonas Reingold, alongside the line-up of Mirko DeMaio on drums, Zach Kamins on keyboards, Hasse Fröberg on vocal & guitar and Roine Stolt on vocal & guitars. The band convened in the middle of 2021 at Fenix Studios in Sweden to record through the fully analogue Rupert Neve mixing desk. The album also features beautiful cover art, once again created by Denver-based artist Kevin Sloan.
Next years tour will also see the band revisiting their early years, performing tracks from ‘Retropolis’, ‘Stardust We Are’, ‘Flower Power’, ‘Space Revolver’ and ‘Back In The World Of Adventures’. This will coincide with the release of newly remastered editions of The Flower Kings albums on CD & Vinyl later in 2022. The first confirmed live dates are as follows:
30th March 2022 – Katalin, Uppsala, Sweden
31st March 2022 – Musikens Hus, Gothenburg, Sweden
1st April 2022 - Södra Teatern, Stockholm, Sweden
Look out for more information on the new album, pre-orders and the first single on the 10th December.

..."record through the fully analogue Rupert Neve mixing desk..."

This makes me so happy! I think they have done this on a couple albums in the past few years. If I remember right Agents of Mercy and a couple other TFK albums have been recorded analog thru a Neve board as well. The final mastering is probably all digital, but at least the original capture is thru an analog mix board.
I'm also looking forward to more LP releases, hoping for Adam&Eve and Sum Of No Evil soon...

Flower Power on LP will be great too, will expect that one to be a 3-LP set like Unfold and Stardust.

Yea I heard it the other day, I think it's a great song. Love the drumming and both vocal performances, Roine's guitar sounds nice as well.

I've already pre-ordered the 3-LP/2CD box set.

Pretty good track, but weird opening track. It's the first track of the double album.

Yeah, I've pre-ordered it as well.  I'll hold off listening to any of it until I have it though, just how I do it with my favorite bands.

I'm still waiting for them to blow me away like they used to.  Last album that did that for me was Sum, and the ones since have been more or less disappointing to me, though I have found things to like about all of them.  Islands was, IMO, the best they have done since Sum, but still not nearly at that level or the level of any of the stuff before Sum (with a couple exceptions that people here likely know if they've read my comments here over the years).

Still, I look forward to each new album and none of them have been out right bad for me, all are at least decent to good.  It's not like I want them to do another Stardust or Flower Power...........well, actually, yes, I do, lol.  I do like that they've "progressed" over the years and that they continue to do their thing.  I just find I'm not as impressed or moved by their music as I was in the 90's and early 2000's.  Just my feelings about it, and certainly not a judgement about musicianship (which is always stellar) or production values (always stellar) or even the writing.  Though I guess that last is where I'm struggling to enjoy them as much, but it's more than that.  I feel like the magic is gone, or at least changed, and it just doesn't hit me like it used to.

In any event, I'll listen to the new one with an open mind and probably enjoy it for the most part.  We'll see.  I'm still a fan, regardless, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing Roine's guitar solos.

We are on the same page, for me TFK are an auto-buy as I always find more than enough material in their big albums to like a lot. I have to invest a lot of time to sit and soak in a Flower Kings album of late, usually 3-LPs, six sides of music and so I have to allocate that time.
When I do that my senses are wide open and I'm not working, playing on my stoopid iPhone or 'puter work but just listening. Not much of late I have gone WOW!!! Like on Sum, A&E and of course Stardust, seems that chemistry of music making has disappeared for them. The musicianship saves it for me, stellar and yes the production is always top notch and the vocal collaborations are excellent, the album packaging helps a lot too, at least for me since I only do LPs, big a$$ gatefold covers are super nice.
I've not been following much on the lyrics of late, I do initially follow along on my first spins but usually I don't pay much attention afterwards, not sure that's appropriate.

I have totally lost interest in for example Dream Theater, I have no desire to buy their albums anymore. But I keep buying The Flower Kings records, so something jives with me and them. Clap

New song.

I kinda like it. It sorta reminds me of the Space Revolver era TFK.

^ Simpler than usual for TFK.

Not overly happy with it. "The Great Pretender" is a tad better.

So I pre-ordered from Laser's Edge, which has a release date of March 25th.  I assumed when I pre-ordered it that that was the official release date, and maybe it is for the USA.  Still, it seems people have had the album for a couple weeks already, that ordered it direct from Roine or other Euro outlets.  I don't really care, as I'm not in any big hurry to hear it, though I think it is more than a little strange that the US release is almost a month later than the rest of the world.  I don't order direct from Roine because it's seems like a ridiculous amount of money to pay, even if I do get it earlier.  In any case, I haven't heard a note, but am looking forward to hearing it later this month.
