The closest I can come to "my favourite bands" is a list of bands with most albums I'm fond of - and it's not more than that:

Pink Floyd - 6
ELP - 5
Genesis - 5
Can - 3
Eloy - 3
Focus - 3
                        King Crimson - 3
Magma - 3
Czeslaw Niemen - 3
Mike Oldfield - 3
Osibisa - 3
PFM - 3
VdGG - 3
Rick Wakeman - 3

I can tell as well that I've had a period over quite a lot of years when PF was absolutely my favourite band - but that was then. Today, I guess, I might have some kind of special feelings for ELP and Genesis, and for some other bands/artists, as well. 

Edit:
Now, my heart is bleeding due to not mentioning the hundred (or how many?) albums I love so much, and due to referring to so many albums only as numbers. Cry

By the way, about ELP's importance as Prog pioneering band, they were quite important in relation to RPI, as far as I know.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of RPI. IMO RPI wouldn't exist without Genesis, VdGG, KC, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, Yes, not without PFM.

I am kind of surprised by not seeing Caravan in Top 20. They are No.11 on my list of favorite progressive rock bands.

Y'know.. I'm a fairly 'classical' progger (if that means anything...).

Also, I've always personally thought in terms of 'Big 8' instead of Big 6, with Rush and Marillion included; so very excited to see those two there!

I'd only make one change: PFM for VdGG (I've never been able to get into them in spite of trying).

Even seeing IQ bubbling under makes me glad (on account of their first two albums imo).


The way I see it:

Camel is great! but maybe in terms of mood, I'm lately preferring Caravan.

Also some few days ago I made a return to Renaissance after long and their magnificent 'Scheherazade...'; wow.. beautiful.. that bass, acoustic sound, the piano and Annie's voice Big smile

Note: the first 8 I rank them as tied in nš1 because for me the differences, if they exist, are minimal imo but if it makes calculation hard, or cannot distribute the points equally among them, it just can be used the order in which I put them.
