^ it's so weird you keep using the word "poll" when it's lists we are posting here and I'm still waiting to see a poll created with all these bands.

It's probably not as weird as ranking The Quest as the best ever YES album. Not to worry though. I'll have a series of bona fide PA polls coming up very soon featuring the Top 16 bands from the results of this "poll".

1. King Crimson
2. Genesis 3. Transatlantic 4. The Flower Kings 5. Spock's Beard 6. Porcupine Tree 7. Gentle Giant 8. Camel 9. ELP 10. IQ I go back and forth on whether or not to say the Moody Blues are a progressive rock band. I'll keep with a strict definition for this list.

That warms my ELP-heart, and I didn't even put any list here, as it's not so well in line with my approach to music and bands.

You got me persuaded. David's list: 1. Caravan Edit: I must admit, that was "Cristi's way of voting".

At least Caravan won my Canterbury Scene poll if that's any consolation.

How, shouldn't that be featuring the top 20 bands from the results of this "poll"?

Y'know.. I'm a fairly 'classical' progger (if that means anything...). Also, I've always personally thought in terms of 'Big 8' instead of Big 6, with Rush and Marillion included; so very excited to see those two there! I'd only make one change: PFM for VdGG (I've never been able to get into them in spite of trying). Even seeing IQ bubbling under makes me glad (on account of their first two albums imo). The way I see it: 1.- Yes 1.- Genesis 1.- Pink Floyd 1.- King Crimson 1.- Emerson, Lake & Palmer 1.- Jethro Tull 1.- Rush 1.- Marillion 9.- PFM 10.- Gentle Giant Camel is great! but maybe in terms of mood, I'm lately preferring Caravan. Also some few days ago I made a return to Renaissance after long and their magnificent 'Scheherazade...'; wow.. beautiful.. that bass, acoustic sound, the piano and Annie's voice ![]() Note: the first 8 I rank them as tied in nš1 because for me the differences, if they exist, are minimal imo but if it makes calculation hard, or cannot distribute the points equally among them, it just can be used the order in which I put them. |
