Just had one listen to all of these and it was a great listening session, but three rather immediately stood out for me... well, maybe four, but in the mood of the day, my three preferences are, in order of appearance: - Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy (I didn't look who suggested this one; maybe too straight forward for Christian and because of the cinematic quality I suspect it is Greg's suggestion. And it is this cinematic quality that I like - great track). - Hood – The Cliff Edge Of Workaday Morality (Oh yes, this corresponds more to Christian's universe, but I can only say this after listening to all the other tracks of the playlist - definitely my kind of thing and I didn't know Hood so this is something new to explore). - Gino Vannelli – The War Suite (More classic, 70s, orchestral pop-rock-prog, and/but this is something I really like, with some ELP influences... (JD?). A track clearly in different movements and very enjoyable) I must say that I also very much liked the Hank Dogs track. I remember they were already suggested in one of these polls with a great song, so I really have to listen to the album because it is probably a "must buy". I very much liked how this track is using the flageolet guitar tones in the first part and at the end and combined with the vocal harmonies it could have ended on my podium... |

Thank you so much for The Hank Dogs votes! I really loved their 2 recordings, they are worth exploring further.

Neville Brothers are always excellent, as well as their backup band, The Meters.

Top 4 picks from the playlist as follows:
1. Hank Dogs - Let Go - great song, been playing it over and over 2. Weedpecker - Molecule – loved the dreamy intro and as soon as the song evolved I knew this may be a favorite of the playlist. This one is super rich in sound 3. Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy – again a nice dreamy entrance and evolving nicely 3. Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright and Anna McGarrigle - Mendocino - what a voice and beautiful harmony I could not whittle these down to a top 3 but since I had to (for voting purposes) I have picked Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright and Anna McGarrigle - Mendocino - by a microparticle. A splendid playlist |

Been busy....family...Thanksgiving These are my choices...nice list and a bit hard to choose but, -The Screaming Trees – Halo of Ashes (reminds me of Echo and the Bunnymen....had to pick this one ) -Sly and the Family Stone – Family Affair (from an iconic American R&B/funk/soul album imho ...still sounds great today....some won't choose things they have heard before...not sure why , but for me this cried out to be picked.) Also liked Dayvan Cowboy and War Suite
My apologies if I chose too soon...usually I am late to the party. ![]() Edited by dr wu23 - November 29 2021 at 11:41 |

@mathman0806
I voted thinking everything was updated but then I realized Silly Puppy 's song is missing. We should add it in the playlist and in the first page. |

Had these ready yesterday, but wasn't sure if voting was open yet or not. Once again, brava and bravo to all who participated, to Mike for being the conductor, to George for playing the DJ, and to Lorenzo for the composition.
![]() ![]() ![]() 1. Lorenzo: Bruce Springsteen with The Sessions Band “Further on Up the Road” This is how I like Bruce best, with an
acoustic guitar. Tin whistle, think I’m
gonna like this one. This is really
beautiful, love the Celtic sound to it.
Fiddles, bodhrans, bunch of character voices, and all joining in unison.
2. Christian: Hood “The Cliff Edge of Workaday Morality” Ooooh, nice kind of eerie beginning, right off the bat. I have quite come to enjoy your selections, Christian, although I at first didn’t quite grasp some of it. This is very spooky, spoken vocal with ghostly strings, repeating oooooooo and unexpected start-stops. There is some kind of keyboard (accordion? Effected keyboard?) Haunting, sounds a bit like a tortured soul. I like it 3. Ronstein: Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright & Anna McGarrigle “Mendocino” This one speaks to me very strongly. I spent all of my childhood summers just north of Mendocino on my great aunt’s ranch, which was paradise. I knew Mendocino when it was truly just a little artist colony. It remains one of my most loved places. A beautiful paean. HONOURABLE MENTIONS (The Battle for Top 3), in no particular order: George: Screaming Trees “Halo of Ashes” dr wu23: Neville Brothers “Voodoo” Cristi: Weedpecker “Molecule” Edited by Snicolette - November 29 2021 at 07:45 |

My podium:
1) The Hank Dogs – Let Go hypnotic, icy folk piece, delicious. 2) Hood – The Cliff Edge Of Workaday Morality dissonant experimental piece with sinister atmosphere 3) Neville Brothers: Voodoo: piece on the edge between reggae and funky, with a very refined arrangement ------------- Honorable Mentions: 4) R. Wainwright, M. Wainwright, A. McGarrigle – Mendocino : piano ballad, vocals and piano, melancholy and solemn, a kind of Schubert lieder, which tess the singer on the high notes- 5) The Screaming Trees – Halo of Ashes hard rock piece that combines melody and raga, I would also say prog 6) Weedpecker: Molecule long atmospheric song with a slow but good crescendo, reaching a nice climax, then emphasized until the end 7) Boards of Canada – Dayvan Cowboy instrumental piece with an atmosphere similiar to Molecule 8) The Swell Season – Low Rising pleasing rock ballad 9) Kings of Leon – Be Someone beautiful rock song with a great work on the drums. Great Music here! Grand Public's Prize: Admirals Hard – Whip Jamboree/Let The Bulgine Run melodic folk piece, pleasant ethnic dance Grand Critic's Prize: Gino Vannelli – The War Suite 10-minute suite with a neoclassical flavor, definitely a prog piece given its progressions and rhythm changes, the vocals arrive towards the end. Ambitious piece Edited by jamesbaldwin - November 29 2021 at 02:13 |

I've been away. For some reason, I wasn't able to update the poll for dr wu's selection from my phone and needed to get back on computer. It should all be good. Let me know if I need to update anything else. Playlist is updated as well.
