Technically, I didn't. I only cast my vote for Dead Sara, the other two were just a list.
I thought I'd read the multiple vote option hadn't been enabled.
Plus, none of the other tunes does anything for me.

Here are my Top 3, honourable mentions and “if they’d chosens.”  Kudos to Cristi for giving the ladies the stage, to all of the participants, to George for the playlist and as always, to Lorenzo, “The Grand Creator.” 

1.       Christian:  Far and away my favourite!   Go_A-SHUM “Ukraine Contribution etc”  Ooooh, fun discordant vocals.  Almost sorta middle eastern/Balkan moments and what a cool truck and falcon.   Synths and a whistle/flute.  Ends on a high note with almost what would be called a “zyarit,” in belly dance land. Also, if you’d chosen  Sylvia Juncosa’s “one in three,” would have been in the mix for deeper consideration. 

2.       Kees:  Easily second choice, it did become a “grower.”  Anna Calvi “Wish”  Live setting, here, driving, mostly solo electric guitar  for quite some time, then band joins in (nice [Fender] guitar!!!!)  Sorta punky, but then gets into some really interesting lead work and I like her more sung than semi-spoken vocals.  Gets into a kind of wailing, thrashy, part.  If you’d chosen either of these also, it might have worked out differently, Anouk “Nobody’s Wife” Anouk “It’s a New Day” 

3.       George: I really liked the attitude and the reference to The Weathermen (always loved that Dylan line, too).  Dead Sara “Weatherman”  Straight-forward hard rock here, with a touch of alt-rock/grunge, catchy guitar hooks and a raspy-voiced lead vocal.  Bit of a rap 2/3rds in (a trend here), then back to the driving song. 

Honourable Mentions: 

Cristi:  Blood Ceremony “Goodbye Gemini” 

JD:  I am sorry I knew all of your choices, so my own caveat is not to vote for something I already know.  However, I do love especially both the Lee Aaron and Nina Hagen songs. 

IF YOU’D CHOSEN THESE, PERHAPS A DIFFERENT OUTCOME FOR MY VOTES

Mike:  The Breeders “Saints,” also if you’d chosen  Linda Martini “Este Mar” 

Tigerfeet:  Ellips “Maailma on Rikki” 

Greg:  Eskaton “Dagon” 

Lorenzo:  Cristina Donà “Ho Sempre Me” 

Mila:  Tash Sultana “Murder To The Mind” 

And not to leave out Ronstein, late to the party, but would love to have more to choose from, in future polls, if you have other potentials.

So, here we go. I went for the exciting, captivating, get-your-ass-from-the-couch and or original rocking/string-touching tracks... If it should be proggier than rockier I would go with Eskaton and if I would a bit more into nostalgia I would go with Lee Aaron (I heard a lot of that kind of material in the 80s), but in the end I vote for these (in order of appearance):
- Dead Sara - Weatherman (love the energy and rage!)
- Üstmamo - Tannomai (this one really works out well for me)
- Go_A - Shum (exciting and original and damned captivating)

It was a nice rocking playlist overall... Thumbs Up

The razamataz is a pain in the bum

What worries me a bit about the nominations (including my own, and I do realise that there are a few exceptions, some more suggested rather than nominated) is that the majority have a female singer but all or all but one of the instrumentalists are men. Actually that's not so much a worry about the nominations in particular but more about the state of the art when it comes to women in music. Disapprove It still feels a bit like the seventies.

I'm toying around with the idea of doing a poll about female instrumentalists but I have serious doubts how much would be found, at least among the stuff we really love and that is not known to everyone. (I can bring in some more avantgarde electronic, no problem, but...Tongue also of course there's classical music.)

I wouldn't say it's still like the 70s, the metal community has plenty of women, but then again metal on PA is not popular, so the discussion ends here. Ouch

  Interesting thoughts from both of you.  I did think of The Bangles, for instance, who I quite enjoyed, all women, but felt too "poppy," for here, I'm sure there are others, who may not have fit the "rock," part of the category quite so much.  Nor would they have fit my usual lesser known aspirations, although sometimes I've wavered from that (here, too, with The Pretenders).  

I truly don't listen to much straight rock and never really have after things started to get more complex musically about the mid-60's.  I did, however, see and hear plenty of rock and metal, especially during the 1970's and 1980's/1990's, both periods of when I was living in LA, the latter part while working in the music business.  Perhaps, for me, it was the over-saturation with less innovation that made it less interesting.  Which is not at all to say it doesn't have it's place.  Every musician has to have a starting point, and for many, that is rock.

For instance, I know for a fact that when Black Sabbath is rehearsing for a tour, they often warm up first by enjoying jamming together on jazz pieces.  It just stands to reason that the longer you play music, the better you will get at it and likely will want to stretch out into more difficult material to play.  

I found a lot to enjoy here, certainly, as I have with the other genres we've tackled.  And found some new music to explore, which, for me, is always a high point of these polls.

I just got back from a long week. However, I do have a tentative draft of votes and comments for tomorrow and enjoyed listening to all the songs. Thanks for the playlist mathman. It makes it much easier when on the road.

Not sure whether my friend cristi meant me with that remark but for sure I still listen to rock music, and listening with open ears to try to find what's in a track often leads to success. Ultimately this poll again has some great stuff picked by people passionate about their music. And once more I end up with more than three votable ones.

The Eskaton track is amazing and I didn't know it already, however it somehow feels unfair to me to vote for sophisticated RIO in a poll like this. Thanks for nominating it though, I've got to get that album (only have and know 4 Visions).

Then some rock just works for me even though it surely uses many elements that can be found in many other songs - I just love the Courtney Barnett track, vote 1 goes there. Same comment holds for the Imelda May track, it's just so inescapably physical, dynamic, and cool, vote 2 there. And then the more or less obligatory vote for Lorenzo's often successful attempts to promote the music of my adopted home country - thanks to him I know much better how much goes on here musically not only in the golden prog past but also in the present! Ustmamo, vote 3!

Just outside the top 3: Arimea, Blood Ceremony.

1. Eskaton - Dagon  I will most likely be purchasing the album this comes from.  Love it!
2. Dead Sara - Weatherman  It looks like this one gets the majority of the votes, and it deserves it.  
3. Imelda May - Johnny Got a Boom Boom  I love this sort of stuff and it definitely rocks!  Very infectious.

This mini-suite is a great song, maybe a masterpiece and I should put it on the top step of the podium but....

as often happens with prog songs, they have a longer duration than the others, they are more elaborate, they contain very different sound and mood moments, that is, they are richer and heterogeneous and this creates problems for me in comparison with the other suggestion because, for example, this song it is fantastic but not like an immediate rock song sung by women, it is fantastic for its composition that has few rock moments and female singing... I woudl say: often the prog songs are "superior" to the others because they are more complex and elaborate and thus correspond only partially to the theme of the poll, since they could also correspond to other themes for their different parts.... in short, I think I've made confusion, but in the end I give to Eskaton the

1) Gold Medal - Anna Calvi: Rock song but in reality very little engaging and cheerful, it is indeed a very cryptic song, where the energy is all held back, it implodes instead of exploding, and this gives rise to a great tension, tension that is never released. In short, a classy song. 

2) Silver Medal - Imelda May : I confess that I have a weak for rock and roll with the double bass, and this song got very "roll" and little "rock" rhythm that reminds me of Chuck Berry: a nice relaxation. 

3) Bronze Medal: Heather Nova: This song is less rock than the others and perhaps one of the simplest, but a beautiful melody and the singer's voice is enough to make it very beautiful


Honorable mentions:

4) Dead Sara - fantastic determination of the singer, heavy metal impetus, very engaging, to see in concert

5) Blood Cerimony
