Fare thee well, Paddy Moloney, the heart and soul of the Chieftains. Go n’éirí an bóthar leat.

That's Paddy in the forefront on the uilleann pipes....

Saw the Chieftains thirty ago, they were brilliant and Paddy Maloney is a very funny man. they also had an Irish Dancing section performed by the then unknowns, Michael Flatley and Jean Butler, who went on to star in Riverdance.

I never knew much about the Chieftains until they did a mind blowing album with Ry Cooder called San Patricio. RIP sir.

Their collaborations with musicians across genres says much about the respect they had in the wider community, Paddy playing a key role.  Loved his work on Mike Oldfield's "5 Miles Out" album.  RIP Paddy

Hi,

RIP Paddy ... I have enjoyed hearing your music for at least 50 years and can not think of a time without it!

PS: Ry Cooder. Check his interview that is one hour long from 2014, to have an idea of a really progressive and experimental player. And the funny note about someone publishing something about his music, and the guy had no idea what the tunings were which would screw up just about everything that was written!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
