That Barre Phillips album has intrigued me from the first listen. I've played it a lot. On the ECM label and John Abercrombie plays guitar on the longest track the closer. Barre plays double bass but uses a bow at times. John Surman adds horns and synths. Three of them play synths which are prominent on side two but not the annoying kind. Soundscapes too and compositions.

Makes me feel good to see Soft Machine do so well against that mighty Santana album.

Well said. And the album cover is one of my all time favourites as well.

Hey John. With COMA's, it's an album I enjoyed well enough, but at the time I was discovering so much music that genuinely wowed me. It just sounded a bit too ordinary to these ears, and that was the time when I was most into experimental, out-there avant garde mutant kinds of music. As for Companyia Electrica Dharma's, that did have a kind of wow factor. Very complex at times, as you say. Great stuff on the list that I would have thought would have had appeal to most fusionheads who have deeply explored and appreciate a plethora of JRF/ fusion. Some obscure ones there for sure Greg. And yes COMA's album is my least favourite in this poll but an entertaining album regardless that I quite enjoy. I think my Jazz and related list would have been perfect at 65 albums but I wanted 60 or 70 and it was easier to add some that otherwise wouldn't have been on here than take five away. How talented was that Companyia Electrica Dharma band? So complex at times, just a treat.

I'm kind of surprised that anyone who would know all of these well enough to be able to say that none of them do anything for them would find nothing in the albums to appeal.
Nice to see Financial Tycoon in the list, been ages since I last listened to that. Mind you, while it was an early acquisition of mine, it wasn't an album that wowed me. My vote is Companyia Electrica Dharma- Diumenge. Love it. |

Totally get this because there are whole sections of Jazz I avoid because of high pitched, plastic sounding synths, or the traditional Jazz stuff that's not electric. Yes there are stone cold classics among them of course but I just don't like them. Synths are the number one issue for me in Jazz. This is my tastes and you have yours. It's all good!

I find these Jazz polls more difficult probably because I'm so into this style of music plus with all the variety it's almost what my mood is feeling, my votes are going to what I'm into right now in October of 2021.

My vote as well, I am so into Karl Jenkins' electric piano work and Etheridge's guitar but the atmosphere! Just love it! There's more ex NUCLEUS members on here than anyone else at this point which is pretty cool me being such a massive fan of that band.

Quite a close call between Santana, Elephant9, and One Shot.
Going to have to go with the pachyderms.
