2000: One in and one out of PA: Ian Anderson and Pram

Despite the avian references, these paired up seemingly rather by chance.

Each of the these is the first track off the respective act's albums. One is included in PA (Ian Anderson) and one is not (Pram).

Ian Anderson - "The Secret Language of Birds" from the album The Secret Language of Birds



Pram - "The Owl Service" from The Museum of Imaginary Animals



I would have rather compared the full albums.

I had never heard of Pram, but that track is a winner, I loved it, very groovy - had sort of a Curved Air feel to it, IMO.  So I voted for Pram.  I think SLOB (the track) is a good one, and I like several others off of that album (Habanero Reel, The Jasmine Corridor, Sanctuary).  Adding Pram to my never ending list of new music to explore.

This was the first Pram song I ever heard, when the album was new, and I loved it to pieces. I didn't like the next ones that much so let them drop a bit, but later found out that they have much more good stuff on offer. This one is hard to beat really, so I'll vote for it, despite also liking Ian's track.

Sweet -- really happy to have exposed you to something new to enjoy. When that happens it's magical for me. :D Yes, it has some of those mellow, quirky, groovy and jazzy psychedelic qualities of Curved Air. Pram is one that has retro qualities. I got to know Pram just a couple of years ago or so when I went through a big 90s "art pop phase" after being exposed to the "art pop" of 90's Broadcast, Stereolab, Portishead, Morcheeba, and Mono (not the one in PA) due to a radio sketch comedy music show from the 90s that I found. Pram I found was often associated with those. In that song I do hear a Portishead-like sound, and he band is often compared to Broadcast and Stereolab.

Had I made this about two albums from 2000 not in PA. then I would have done the Pram and Broadcast's The Noise Made By people (both of which have neo-psych, retro qualities).

I don't go back as far with Pram as you, but this would have been one of the first I heard. Since I discovered this in the youtube age, I think "The Door With Empty Cupboards" off North Pole Radio Station was the first I really noticed.

The Pram album I have listened to the most would be 1994's Helium (partially because "Blue" got under my skin).

I also enjoy this Ian Anderson track, but the quirkiness, mood and groove of the Pram appeals to me more than the more typically conventional in its way, I would think, Ian Anderson track.
