It's Time to Say Goodbye to Joan Armatrading, but it's a brand new entry and a Brand New Key for Melanie, thanks to Cristi.

OK, I'm going to argue that Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde are not really singer-songwriters here. They were really the lead singers in bands and unlikely they were the only songwriters.

The title track on Solitude Standing is enough for me to vote for that, the music video is so good, and the song is very cool metricly, intricat musical arrangement.

A nice selection of wonderful artists (e.g. Amos, Collins, McKennitt, McLachlan, Mitchell, Simon)
but for me personally Suzanne Vega's Solitude Standing is the dearest of these.

I can see your point, but Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde both sing and co-write their band's songs, so they're both singer/songwriters in my eyes. I could've featured their lesser-known solo albums in the poll instead, but Chrissie Hynde has only recorded one solo album so far and I doubt if anyone's going to vote for Debbie Harry's Koo-Koo album when there's 24 other choices.

I vote for The Pretenders. And FYI Christine Hynde was the primary song writer for The Pretenders. Edited by Grumpyprogfan - September 27 2021 at 06:45 |

Since you asked, it's actually an ironic nickname given to me by a colleague in our work football team, mainly for my complete inability to get near enough to anyone to carry out a Ron "Chopper" Harris-style tackle. And as I discovered after joining PA it's also a cartoon dog - Chopper (dog) | Hanna-Barbera Wiki | Fandom

Carole King Tapestry is like second all-time to Pink Floyd DSotM for chart time (in the US)! Besides that, it's just an amazing collection of amazing songs.

I was expecting Carole King to win this poll, but at the moment, Suzanne Vega is Standing in Solitude in first place with three votes.

It's all change in the Male version of this poll, but there ain't no changes here. Well, apart from Joan Armatrading being swapped for Melanie, obviously.

Tapestry - almost perfection for a singer-songwriter album (regardless of gender).
