Apart from copious amounts of Kraftwerk I don't really have much German prog in my collection.

Can - Ege Bamyasi (but anything from their debut up to and including Soon over Babulama would make the list)
Popol Vuh - Nosferatu: On the Way to a Little Way / Brüder Des Schattens - Söhne Des Lichts
Cosmic Jokers - Galactic Supermarket
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
Embryo - Stieg Aus (but they've got like six equally strong contenders)
Klaus Schulze - Mirage
Amon Düül II - Yeti
Faust - So Far
Kraan - Kraan
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine
Cluster - Zuckerzeit
Dzyan - Electric Silence

Loads more I would have like to include: Frankie Dymon Jr (just doesn't really feel german), Dom, Harmonia, Deuter, Brave New World, Kalacackra, A.R + Machines, Tortilla Flat mm...

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

no order, 1 band per album:
Anyone's Daughter - Adonis
Triumvirat - IoaDD
Amenophis - S/T
Eloy - Ocean
Neuschwanstein - Battlement
Novalis - S/T

And I think that's it. I probably forgot 1 or maybe 2 records that I rarely listen to but whatevs. As a bonus, here are the top 3 German bands that I can't stand no matter how highly they're rated.

Can
Minotaurus
Tangerine Dream

I honestly can't think of any German bands I can't stand, but that's probably because I haven't listened to enough German prog, seeing as I've never heard any albums by Can or Minotaurus. I do like Tangerine Dream though. Smile

I dunno if I have 12 different German bands, but I'll see what comes out here...

1. Eloy - Poseidon's Creation
2. Triumvirat - Spartacus
3. Amon Duul II - Phallus Dei
4. Can - Tago Mago
5. Kraan - (original album)
6. Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra

8. Lucifer's Friend - Where the Groupies Killed the Blues
9. Tangerine Dream - Rubycon

Also have Ash Ra Tempel (original) but it hasn't grabbed me much, and some music from KraftwerkKlause Schultz, Anyone's Daughter and Eberhard Weber, but haven't heard it enough to have an opinion.

this is tough, so many great ones, so I kept to 21 artists, and allowed live albums.  The ones with asterisk probably would not make the top 12

alphabetically

Amenophis - s/t
Anyone's Daughter - Live
Birth Control - Plastic People
Carol of Harvest - s/t
Eden - Erwartung
Eloy - tie between Dawn and Time to Turn, but I could have chosen 4 others
Favni - Windswept *
Galahad - The Return of the Piper *
Grobschnitt - Solar Music Live
Hoelderlin - Traum *
Midnight Circus - s/t *
Minotaurus - Fly Away *
Novalis - Veillicht... *
Passport - Garden of Eden
Pell Mell - tie between Marburg and Rhapsody (2 very different albums)
Poor Genetic Material - tie between Spring Tidings and Winter's Edge (singer is Scottish but two main instrumentalists are German)
Rebekka - Phoenix *
Rousseau - retreat
Sundenfall II - s/t
Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure
Triumvirat - Old Loves Die Hard *
Troya - Point of Eruption *
Zomby Woof - Riding on a Tear
