ABBA the most selling swedish band/artist/media singel unit, of all time, and one of the most sold bands in the world (in popular music) have released an album (have not heard it myself) but it is creating a sturr. A giant is moving and the bedrock is churring, the force that is ABBA is to behold and to reccognize or in prog community, does not even make a ripple in the ocean of occourances.

One of the biggest music news possible. (If we don't count some highly unlikely fantastical news like Syd Barrett faked his own death, but is actually alive and Pink Floyd will release a new album with him.)

Though, I cannot say I'm super stoked. I hope they release some superb stuff though. It is said that they've released 2 new songs already. I'll check them out later.

The songs already released (a single), as I understand it are:

I Still Have Faith In You
Don't Shut Me Down
"We're going to need a bigger swear jar."

Chloë Grace Moretz as Mindy McCready aka 'Hit Girl' in Kick-Ass 2

They stopped making albums since 1983? Who in the prog world knew?!

Mamma Mia, here they go again. My, my, how much I've missed them! Since ABBA split, I've bought solo albums by Agnetha, Benny & Frida and I cared enough to read this thread, so you can put me down as "Super Stoked" to hear the wonderful news that ABBA have released their first new album in 40 years. Clap

I should probably make some choices between super and careface, but i also like the extreme disparage between the gulf of those that yells wheeeeeee and those that say meh...

I like classic ABBA a lot, and definitely am interested. In fact I've been watching ABBA Voyage things on the internet. What music I heard does not really excite me -- I'd like it to be more different. Had they, say, teamed up with Trent Reznor, I'd be super stoked.

I don't know yet what I should think of this. Sounds almost like a hoax. So I cannot vote for either options. I suspect this music has been created by their holograms, who also go on tour.

Somewhere in between. Abba had some really good stuff and I'm curious what they come up with, but today in the TV news they played half a minute or so of their new single, and it didn't sound very promising. Wouldn't be the first time that it takes me some time to get one of their songs though.

I've never listened to an ABBA song all the way through. And I never will. I'd rather eat sand.

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

I just had a listen to the two songs, and I have mixed feelings.

I love the old ABBA, and in fact Arrival is one of my favourite albums from the 1970's (not a popular view on a prog site I imagine, but I think the musicality of it is astonishing - good pop is good pop). But it was the right decision to stop in 1982. It's better to remember it for what it was rather than try to recreate it.

That being said, "Don't Shut Me Down" works surprisingly well, with lead vocals by Agneta methinks. But "I Still Have Faith In You" is too musical-like and a tad syrupy too, and the vocals are really bad (must be Frida).

Since the poll only has polar opposites, I will abstain from voting - I am more in between...

me too...I like them quite a bit but I did notice that, with a lot of their songs, I couldn't remember which song it was until the chorus.  Still, they knew how to really craft a pop song...I just wonder if any of the magic could possibly still be there

I'll have a listen to the new single, but can't say I'm frothing at the mouth excited about this. I loved ABBA as a kid, and still like some of those classic old tunes.

Edit: Just listened to the new songs. Not bad at all. Better than what they were putting out in the early 80's before they split. Dare I say it, a return to form.

You'd be surprised.Confused

While I've always disliked the band and 95% of their stuff, I'm in a small minority (both here and in PE).
Never seen abuse against them (Abba), unlike Phil C, Maria C or plenty other pop artistes.

I couldn't care less, but it was on the evening news yesterday, so I gather it will be difficult to avoid the buzz
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Yes, I see that there are many "Dancing Queen" fans here. Who knew? Anyway, I just assumed that they made records until the 2000s as even plays and movies have been made about them, or their songs.

I love ABBA, but I don't have very high expectations in regards to their new material. If there was an option closer to "I'm curios enough and will check it out" I'd vote for that.
