I would certainly say so!  Thank you for the info and the intro.  Smile

I'll nominate Donovan..Season Of The Witch...even though it's so well known it's a favorite of mine that really captured an era well imho.

13 nominations, people... 13. And I nominated an evil theme. Let the dark powers win. Long live the number 13!!! Evil SmileLOL

Some of the nominations were not made clear. I suggest that we wait till tomorrow to begin voting, lest someone says that s/he intended to nominate another song.

Also, everyone can still participate! The number 13 is great and all, but I won't reject another participant if s/he joins in before anyone votes for the nominations.

Thanks!

First batch:

Erang - The Temple of Elemental Evil (Shadowyzard)
It starts with a string arrangement after which a classical sounding singing voice comes in (which is rather low in the mix). A harp (?) enters the sound along with some woodwind instruments, and the track ends abruptly. Overall very gloomy, and to be honest it is not so much my taste.

I Mother Earth - Levitate (JD)
We enter a more rocky area here, and judging by the sound it's from sometime in the 1990's with grungy vocals and heavy guitar riffs. Later in the song we get some guitar duets with a hint at metal. At other times the singing is almost rap-like, leading my thoughts to RATM. It's the sort of music a lot of the lads listened to when I was at boarding school in the late 90's. It's not a type of music that really appeals to me, but I don't dislike it.

Michele O'Malley - Song to the Magic Frog (Progishness)
This one is more folkish. Interesting with the melodic emphasis on the sharp 7th on "ever know", as well as with the clavichord (I think) in the left channel.

Les Rita Mitsouko - La sorcière et l'inquisiteur (suitkees)
And now for something completely different. This one has a Mediterranean flavour, especially with regards to the melody and the vocal style. Very dynamic performance by the singer too as she illustrates the things the witch is going through under the torture of the inquisitor. I like it a lot. Possible contender.

The Budos Band - Magus Mountain (mathman0806)
Begins with an edgy guitar, but it quickly turns into a more soul-like groove with Motown-like bass and drums, keyboards and a sharp brass riff. There's an almost aggressive trumpet solo at some point. Around 3:30 there's a minor break after which the "tutti" part comes in again. I like this one too, and it's another contender.

Iron & Wine - House By The Sea (Snicolette)
Starts with some percussion instruments and marimbas (?), then enter acoustic and electric guitars along with some folkish vocals. Rather quirky atmosphere overall, and the sound reminds me a bit of an Australian music project called Clue to Kalo. Strong contender for my part. Great track!

In Turkey, we have some extremely serious issues in and around these days. The most prominent one of them is wildfires. I'll not give details, and I'm mentioning this for pointing out that my main focus is that at the moment.

I'll listen to the nominations and vote before Monday, though. Even if I'm not in the mood for having fun nowadays, I'm not personally/directly affected by these conditions.

^ Good to hear that you're not directly affected by these fires, but I can understand the unease. Here at the Western Mediterranean, we haven't had those exceptional temperatures yet and the fires remain relatively small, but I hear almost daily the fire fighting planes circling above my head (they take in water on a lake nearby), and a couple of years ago a fire was stopped at 150m from my house...

Thanks, man. We are horrible concerning fighting with wildfires. Sadly.

These things seem to become worse and worse all over the world. I hope that non of you or your loved ones will be affected. Sure there are more important things than our polls!

I feel your pain Wyz. Over the last several weeks we were under 'smoke' alerts from the wild fires out west. Our moon looked a little orange last week for a few nights. And we live 4000km away.
Stay safe man !

Fires are terribly concerning and scary.  I have several friends who lost everything in the Camp Fire (Paradise, CA) a few years ago, and they are still waiting for assistance (between FEMA and the fund that was set up for PG&E as recompense for losses due to their willful neglect of their equipment, which caused those fires).  We also were ready to evacuate last Sept due to fires, just over the ridge from us and are facing another terribly dry year in an area known for raining a lot.

May you continue to stay safe, and hopefully the fires will be put out soon.

Sincerest thanks to you all. Heart

There appeared an incredibly nightmarish possibility of 1 million tons of brown coals catching fire in a fossil fuel plant, and the city just south of us will be smoke poisoned to death if the wind carries the smoke towards them. ALL OF THEM MIGHT DIE! This was a GREAT possibility, not a slight one. And we planned to go to Ankara, which is and will be safe from these fires. Imagine it! Even if Muğla and the nearing cities are evacuated, not everybody has a second house! What would those people do?

Countless animals, plants died and are dying; together with numerous people. I'm ineffably sorry...

And bonus. This band is called Old Man Wizard and I had come across them on Bandcamp a few days ago. Some good stuff that mixes heavy prog, folk, psyche, and alternative. Band, song, and album (Blame It All On Sorcery) fit the theme so couldn't pass up sharing.
