Not a huge kansas fan, but this is definitely sad to read.

I saw Mott the Hoople in Chicago (21 May 1974), and this was the tour that Queen was supposed to open.  However, Brian May had hepatitis & had to drop out, so Kansas was rushed in as aa replacement (literally, they had to drive up in a hurry from their home state of Kansas!).

I thought they were just brilliant - this was the year that their first LP came out.  RIP Robby.

ps Mott were also brilliant!!  RIP Overend.

I always liked Kansas. Probably the best American prog band in the 70's. Their albums released in those years are great. He was one of the best musicians of his generation and he had a very important role in the band, especially in those times.

R.I.P. Robby. We'll never forget you. Your work will prevail in our memories.

Really sad news. Kansas were one of the very first progressive rock bands that I discovered and appreciated back in 1979 when they released 'Monolith'. I still remember the promotional video for 'People of the South Wind' and 'Reason to Be' that was broadcast by some local tv channel.
A couple of years later i bought 'Leftoverture' and was blown away by the acappella intro of 'Carry on Wayward Son', the album became immediately a personal favourite. Although David Ragsdale is excellent, I had always hoped that Steinhardt would return to the band at least for a few shows or a record...

Yep very sad indeed , great player and I'm sure a great guy as well. I saw them live (West London) about 20 years ago and they were full throttle for the whole gig. Respect.
RIP

I listened to the debut on the day of notice. It went by SO fast. It's a perfect record. Kansas truly was a supergroup when the label wasn't thrown about haphazardly.

I'm a big Kansas fan, and I only found out about this tonight.

Steinhardt is my favorite violinist.
