A place for posting your favourite alternative cover versions of well-known songs, starting with this grunge-free Nirvana classic given the swing treatment. Smile

How about this version of Soundgarden's Blackhole Sun.

Seemingly most people hated this, but I really love this cover.

In 1999 I attended a Nina Hagen concert in Aarhus, and she made a hilarious cover of "All Apologies" with her own lyrics (which, sadly, I don't remember).

My Apologies, but I don't remember who recorded the original version of All Apologies. Embarrassed

The Bad Plus - Smells Like Teen Spirit

One of the few Nirvana' songs I actually like but I'm not entirely convinced by this piano trio adaptation

Alex Skolnick Trio - War Pigs

Sabbath's early jazz and blues influences are laid bare hereabouts - I love this to bits

I like Tarja Turunen's version of Smells Like Teen Spirit even more than Paul Anka's swinging version. Thumbs Up

Rather surprisingly, I prefer Sonja Kristina's version of "Soon" to Jon Anderson's original version. Shocked

Speaking of Smells Like Teen Spirit, here's a crazy instrumental cover by this great Fusion band.
I really loved the drum solo at the end.

Since country music doesn't get much as around here, how about Sturgill Simpson's cover of Nirvana's In Bloom.

And is this alternative? Metallica's Enter Sandman done in the Let's Dance style of David Bowie.

And I think this cover of Personal Jesus in the style of Motorhead is well done.

Al Di Meola just dicking around during practice with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

On the subject of Enter Sandman, I really like this version by Robert & Toyah, although that may have something to do with Toyah's tight sweater. Embarrassed

I came to this post expecting it to be about the Belgian RIO/Avant band Aranis and what my memory erroneously thought of as their “Smells Like Nirvana” album (actually “Smells Like Aranis”). I was intrigued, as I wondered how Paul might have come across the album, given his musical tastes don’t normally stretch to the avant.

But this is a highly enjoyable album, with some interesting arrangements:

You're right, Nick. I 'avant heard much Avant Prog, as it's a bit too offbeat for my musical tastes.  Smile

This funny video was the inspiration for the thread title......

^ I totally agree. It's a Wonderfull version of Wonderwall, and by an incredible coincidence, the Mike Flowers Pops was the next video I had lined up to post here. Thumbs Up

By the way, in case you didn't already know, the retro Mike Flowers Pops are based on the groovy sixties band, Harpers Bizarre. Notice the uncanny resemblance between the blonde-haired lead singers. Wink
