Following on from the Classic American Rock polls, Here We Are in the Years of Classic Canadian Rock, and my vote goes to Neil Young for this first poll in the series.
The Lady of the Canyon makes a late entry into the poll for any Joni Mitchell fans out there. 1980: Bryan Adams - Bryan Adams - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAGBH4Fiti6AD5dJFo6KHZ_f96fA4Xapz 1971: April Wine - April Wine - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsT9douBcx98HvJt5d7ZmYdDlXYgngWSC 1973: Bachman Turner Overdrive - Bachman Turner Overdrive - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz6cAheObZcjzqgQqfcvyRfPsfnGM06Cq 1968: The Band - Music from Big Pink - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nVfRSfDxeWct8A-pxiwb6YUwx2dvEMq1o 1970: Chilliwack - Chilliwack - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQiRAuVLLC4 1977: FM - Black Noise - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mMxLvxBdHNmA4eGxkzE02EghiXqbR_Mpw 1966: The Guess Who - It's Time - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m8PLmymDBo4ZmbN_PnH28NsFzetvTDJAs 1974: Harmonium - Harmonium - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_n-4ZB4kYBtbfhE4mkTzX9ozmuLTkwQLc8 1988: The Jeff Healey Band - See the Light - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l3VYO1tZU45E2umKxo8jEfnkIFB_coir8 1976: Klaatu - 3:47 EST - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_msDOST9rktVVl4VYm4FqCvRC2VBfu1rQU 1980: Loverboy - Loverboy - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyIhNZsfiY8QfpN5x1MUrxCSN2leJE82S 1972: Mahogany Rush - Maxoom - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEMzLROuENR1bV09AXGVDjznU9SnFlEXC 1980: Martha & the Muffins - Metro Music - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nxRyDsjEeH1jWKV7QbNgsk_BAqt6O3UMk 1968: Joni Mitchell - Song to a Seagull - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PGITZmJrkE 1975: Moxy - Moxy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf_lH4AAlag 1972: Offenbach - Soap Opera - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdgDzuvZ2851xxVYRdLtR7dWT91KGDVb5 1974: Rush - Rush - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeAnzAaN0ZU 1978: Saga - Saga - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpqjUShUTYYtOli3cX-KMjkUNlLGEgOj8 1968: Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjNT_VB9AaU 1978: Streetheart - Meanwhile Back in Paris - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nN4uozftE-4JAZ44Olxs9jsGlt1glSuv0 1976: Pat Travers - Pat Travers - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lSuLCLyA2EJVqorSqnvb6wc8A0McHrw1Q 1976: Triumph - Triumph - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSGVVEAakzy7K0UzcmMvEYEFR5HQRyvSZ 1968: Neil Young - Neil Young - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMxy067kbpQgEfmQBWDNEK1I_j5-lo6Ly I'm just getting started. I’m pleasantly surprised by the selection here. Clearly classic Canadian rock is more pleasant and enjoyable to my ears than classic US rock, if I’m to go by the polls from Paul.
There was usually only one contender (if that) per poll, for me, when it came to the US selections. Here I actually had to think about it…..for a nano-second. Neil Young’s debut is one of my favourites from his large and varied discography. He put out some duds, but this wasn’t one of them. |

Only a small group of these fellow Canucks first albums are their best. But for my money Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf 1968 is a great first LP with three very strong hits and an iconic anthem in Born To Be Wild. Hard to beat in my eyes.

Hi,
CANO
They were progressive and good. A lot of those listed were not progressive or that interesting to me. Joni and Neil might be the ones that are worthy of the mention, and they both deserve a bit of the progressive something for their work, but many of the others were not that great for my ears. I still have STEPPENWOLF's first 2 albums, but I'm not sure they are progressive. BTO is definitely not progressive. And the GUESS WHO is not worth of any mentions specially given some really poor and bad history about what they did to The Strawbs on a couple of tours. That alone is shameful and bad!

almost impossible to play because too many to choose from : Black Noise, Harmonium, 3:47 EST, Meanwhile Back In Paris, Pat Travers, Triumph, Chilliwack (though I prefer The Collectors), etc...
plenty nof bands from Quebec missing (Maneige, Sloche, etc...): the only one here are Mahogany Rush, Offenbach and Harmonium

The poll is in the general music section so you're picking on the OP for no reason. He did nothing wrong. Don't be so patronizing all the time, sorry to tell you... |

From this list, I went with FM. Rush would be a close second.
Max Webster's debut was pretty good too. (not in this list)
