Tough game for Italy, Spain more concentrated and sharper than before. I still believe in Italy but it's close to 50/50 now in my view.

Hi, 74 minutes into it ... Italy is up 1-0. 80 minutes into it Alvaro Morata scored to even it up. 1-1. He had just come in to the game 10 minutes before!!!!

Before the penalties the Italians seemed to be all laughing, smiling and having fun. When I saw that, I thought they'll win.

Prior to this game I would have expected Italy to defeat potential finalists England quite easily. Now I'm not so sure. It's also quite ironic that prior to the finals, the consensus wisdom was that England's attack was as good as anyone's but their defence would be their undoing. The opposite has been true so far at Euro 2020.

Tonight will be my 5th England major tournament semi-final after 1966, Italia 90, Euro 96 and 2018. I don't remember watching 1966 and we lost the other 3 so here's hoping tonight is different.

Hi,
I keep thinking that our sentiment is that England will win. They need to show up and play like they did in their last game, but I doubt that the defense they are facing will be that wide open and not as strong as anyone else's not to mention that the GK is one that knows almost everyone of the English players and plays them almost every week in the EPL, which, somehow, I think works against the English a little more than we think. I suppose the same could be said for the GK, but I hope this does not end up in penalties, because that keeper is far more experienced than the English one. Should be an interesting match, and I won't even take a pot shot at a score, but I would not be surprised to see it all tied and into the penalty shoot out ... a sad crap shooter that I think needs a few more penalties than just 5, or redesigned and rethought ... seeing the best in the game fail in these moments is really sad, although it is a part of the game. GET YOUR NERVE PILLS READY! 10 MORE MINUTES!

My perception told me that it was not a convincing penalty. Sterling silver put on a cunning act and took a golden penalty. The VAR was like Cthulhu as usual, in an eternal sleep. Well, did England deserve to win? I'd say no. They surely played better but were too clumsy to score. I think the ultimate penalty kicks should have been the decisive act of the match.
Anyhow, the final game will be very exciting. Edited by Shadowyzard - July 07 2021 at 16:25 |

Mr Southgate may not play the most exciting football, but he gives the players a good attitude. They will never underestimate an opponent, put in a great work rate, and use some intelligence when it matters. The penalty wasn't clear but to be fair England had three half penalties, Denmark can't complain if they get one. Ultimately this was well deserved. From minute 75 it was clear Denmark didn't have enough fuel in the tank anymore. Good for Italy that they made it into extra time at least.

There is nothing as a "half penalty". Oh, the Danes can surely complain. Every position is seperate, and even if there were 3 "half-penalties", they don't stack to make a prospective other a penalty kick. It was not the most obvious non-penalty and all, but the "contact(s)" were very slight and Sterling obviously "acted". Did you see his face? He was, or at least was like screaming as if it had been a deathblow. |

There was contact and Sterling embellished but thats still a penalty in today's game. At least it wasn't a Robben non-contact flop.

^ Fair enough. BTW, I wrote "seperate" twice about penalty kicks in this thread. IDK why. I already know it is "separate".

#5 Defender's right leg was firmly planted and stationary on the ground so if there was contact it must have been initiated by a moving object (the attacker) running into a stationary object (the defender's leg) Jamie Vardy is an arch exponent of this type of cheating. I've watched it back a few times now and take the view that what contact there was, if any, might have been initiated by defender #25 but that Sterling had started to go to ground even before that. Two balls on the pitch before the pen was awarded: ref probably decided (correctly) this didn't interfere with play. In other news: Sterling would slip on Velcro. All that said, to win any tournament you need a slice of luck so let's hope everyone gets what they deserve in the final. As long as it's an exciting and skillful game I'll be happy. and yes, England should have had a penalty against Scotland (Robertson on Sterling)
