Expect Belgium - Portugal to be a good game, I'll take Belgium just. Netherlands are too unpredictable to have much confidence but they should be better than Czech Rep.

Hi,

Were it not the temperatures at around 110 degrees around here, I might actually enjoy these games! I'm trying my best to stay cool ... but it's hard! I would think that Belgium has the edge, but Portugal might pull off a surprise if all of a sudden they can steal a goal or two, which they did against Germany to get to this round. They can not play like that again and expect to make it through.

I'm curious to see if England can live up to it being favored. I'm thinking that they will fall sort of like Wales did ... badly!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I confidently guess that it is going to be a very exciting game. I have my reasons for that. The "clash" of such disparate football "schools" is frequently very fun to watch. If it weren't for my Ronaldo antipathy, I'd support Portugal. Once we say, "Hasta la vista" to him, Portugal will again be one of the teams that I support.

Unpredictable?  Confused veering on poor.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Germany can (and could) win with a 7-1 score against the most accomplished football team ever: Brazil. But they (Germany) can also (and did here) get to the second stage with great difficulty, only some years after.

Netherlands can beat Brazil with a 3-0 score, but can be really a let-down in another (this) tournament.

Its dı futbol, dets dı futbol. (Only Turks can understand here.)

OK, you might want to understand too:

Anyway, I love football precisely because of this. Always welcomes surprises!

The Dutch were astonishingly bad. Both teams now are much better. Czech Rep. played OK but Italy wouldn't have allowed them to win with that performance.

Portugal... Hard to believe how they played after 0-1. As if they didn't want to score a goal... As if they had been the leading team... until the 80th minute... That was when the enchantment was broken and they tried to score... But it was too late...

The Dutch were poor, Czech Rep weren't great but were better than the Netherlands, they were clueless after going behind.

Belgium weren't great but Portugal turned into a team of thugs and divers as the second half went on, just awful. I have no idea how Pepe ever stays on the field. The referee lost the plot.

Someone please remind me never to predict any more results as I never saw Czech Republic 2 v 0 Netherlands coming.Ouch Glad however, to see the back of Ronaldo and his Thugs. (If only the midwife had given Pepe a red card)

how the portugese tackled De Breune and made him leave the pitch, and tried to do the same to Lukaku , i sort of believe they had tactics to go after those two players in particular as they are recived as most threatning to the opposing team. I don't say the planned foul play against those two playes in particular but I would not vote against such claim either, if talks in locker-room had specific tactics of "going after and try to destroy the game for De Breune and Romelu Lukaku".

^ I fear that such dirty "tactics" are real in some football "schools", including my country Turkeys; and Portugal's doesn't seem to be an exception to that.

Certainly in Spain, Busquets & Ramos are master practitioners of the dark arts. The English are certainly no saints in regard to this but tend to be less subtle and get spotted by the referee more easily.

Hi,

My thoughts were/are that Portugal was not coached well and they did not utilize their players properly when considering that at least one was in the bench at the start and he almost could be considered the best player in the EPL this year. The fact that it appears that him and Ronaldo did not connect and get some results is a bit weird and from a coaching perspective it might suggest that the coach wanted a more defensive team to ensure they could withstand a Belgium onslaught. As it turns out, that worked, but it did not help their ability to move forward enough to make a difference. Portugal did not visit the front a whole lot, specially when they are very good at getting penalties called ... which Belgium probably was prepared for, but still ... I think that the Portugal game design was not the right idea and they could not adjust enough to make it work as the game went on. Kudos for the great goal that Belgium got!
