FIFA rankings

One half - Belgium (1), Portugal (5), France (2), Spain (6), Italy (7), Switzerland (13), Croatia (14), Austria (23)
Other half - England (4), Germany (12), Netherlands (16), Denmark (10), Wales (17), Sweden (18), Ukraine (24), Czech (40)

5 of the Worlds top 7 in one half yikes. Yeah, I'd take Englands half.

Having worked in North Wales for long time I'd say "whoever plays vs England", but I'm also Italian so...
..but honestly all my support consists in watching the matches without any particular transport, and I sometimes zap on the remote.
During England vs Scotland I've found a documentary about Miles Davis on Netflix.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I think Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling were also watching it

Wonderful football by Denmark, amateurish defending by Wales. I guess they'll play Netherlands next, which will test them hard, but really love to see them do well now.

That second goal was horrendous, what a dreadful referee decision for the red card. Should have been yellow.

Spirit and desire triumph again. The Danes are a joy to watch

I only missed the second goal. Agreed about the red card.

Even though Wales beat us (Turkey), and Denmark is one of the teams that I heartily support; I wouldn't want the Welsh to have such a result. But, I was also guessing that they weren't apt to achieving a real success.

Anyway... The first half was generally boring. Denmark weren't very good till the 2nd half too. Also, in general, the game was not that fun.

Italy won!!!

The air and the tension of the match was like that of a good UEFA Champions League game. And I like that. Italy, which is my favourite foreign football team, has a major flaw though. They don't have a "game changer" like Del Piero, Baggio, Ravanelli etc. So, I don't see them as one of the very favourites for winning the cup. They still can do that though, if some of their players can be craftier hereafter.

Italy seemed locked and a little nervous in the way they played, but ultimately they showed their class.

I was of course happy to see Denmark win earlier this evening, but it wasnīt until Dolberg scored the first goal, that the team began performing well. The Welch team didnīt create many chances after the first 20 minutes where they played alright. In that respect it was a repeat of the game against Russia, where Denmark really didnīt play well either until the first goal was scored...goals change matches...

Austria did quite well and made it very difficult for Italy. Very curious now how Italy will perform for the first time against a big name team. Mancini has said in Italian TV that this was maybe more difficult than the quarterfinal will be. Let's see.

Wales were abject and with none of their attacking trio (Bale, Ramsay and James) turning up, made the deserved winners Denmark look much better than they needed to be. I expect the Dutch to brush aside the Czech Republic and expose Denmark's glaring limitations in the quarter finals.

Hi,

I think that they were being careful that a team did not sting them at the wrong time. And there might have been a slight change in formation for the Extra Time periods that allowed Italy to move forward a bit more ... I think the sides were left open a bit more and Italy took advantage.

This is what I got from the commentary part on ESPN since I don't have a TV.

Denmark were surely most fun to watch up to now, but when it comes to predictions, I'm with you on this one. They gave Belgium a pretty hard time though.

They were stung though, in regular time, except it was a few centimetres offside. The thing about this game was that Austria were very disciplined and well organised and made it extremely hard for Italy. They hoped that they could maybe prove to be the physically superior side in extra time, tried to do something on their own and gave the Italians some more space, but underestimated how well drilled the Italians also are these days under Mancini.

Usually, when Denmark perform in the Euro or WC finals, we don't get any further than to the first state of the knock-out phase (the only exceptions were 1992 and 1998). So I am surprised to see us going that far. But on the other hand it's also the best football they have played for many years.

But I think the Netherlands (most likely) will be tough to beat, so it may well end there. But then we have already gone much further than I would expect.

^ Denmark, from now on, will have a better composure as they've already exceeded the expectations and are already deemed successful in the tournament. This is generally an advantage, but an unhealthy amount of composure can be a disadvantage too.

Denmark have been fun to watch, they're playing well. I thought Austria were excellent yesterday, they could easily have nicked it. Italy will be relieved to have moved on.

yesterday Italy has established the new record on minutes without taking a goal. The previuos one belonged to Dino Zoff, whose record was interrupted by Sanon in 1974 (Italy vs Haiti 3-1).
I have stopped being a football supporter in the middle of the 90s, but I have a good memory of everything happened before.
