Undoubtedly, the two biggest musical events of 1969 were the huge Woodstock festival in August and the Altamont Speedway concert in December of that year, although Altamont is remembered now for all the wrong reasons, as The Rolling Stones asked the Hells Angels to provide "security" at the event, with disastrous consequences. Ouch

Here's my Top 10 prog favourites for that memorable year:-

Andromeda - Andromeda
Andwella's Dream - Love and Poetry
Arcadium - Breathe Awhile
Arzachel - Arzachel
Gandalf - Gandalf
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
The Moody Blues - To Our Children's Children's Children
The Music Emporium - The Music Emporium
Rare Bird - Rare Bird
Spooky Tooth - Spooky Two

Three other worthy contenders:-

Jethro Tull - Stand Up
Santana - Santana
It's a Beautiful Day - It's a Beautiful Day

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
King Crimson - In The Court of The Crimson King
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

That's pretty much where I tap out/start for prog TBH.

Starting in 1969 and onwards there is too much good music.  It would be so easy to do a top 50 or a 100 :)  I added Krokodil because I have not listened to it in ages and still listening to it a second time in a row now.

Just curious everyone, was going to add It’s a Beautiful Day another great album.. But curious when I listen to the beginnings of the track Bombay Calling... is it just me or does anyone get the same feeling that Deep Purple must have had that in their head this beginnings tune when they did Child in Time a year later?  Could be just my imagination.

^ Thanks for reminding me about It's a Beautiful Day's debut. I've added the album to my worthy contenders list. Sadly, it's not a beautiful day outside today, as it's currently damp and raining, but that's English weather for you. Smile

^ Thanks! I like Krokodil too. I'm looking forward to sorting through the Swamp of Psychedelic Tapes and discovering An Invisible World Revealed in my Krautrock blog. There's so much great music around that Getting Up for the Morning is a real pleasure, although I'm still learning to Sweat and Swim in the wonderful world of prog.  Thumbs Up

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword
