I hope the newbies participate fully, all the way, listen to every nomination and choose their three favorites.

Reaching a full poll house is quite the achievement and landmark. It would be too early to vote in this poll, anyway. Welcome to the site Dark Ness. You need 40 points before you can vote in polls and for that you just need to post more. If you get into conversations here that will take little time. This was done due to some abuse of the voting feature, but I like it because it encourages discussion and we can get to know new people more and they can get to know various of us better. Interactivity is the name of the game. ;) One we all have nominated one particular track (those songs will get listed in the poll) and have listened to all the nominations (that's 25 songs), it's only then that we should vote for three and list those in a post (often with comments on the song choices but that is not a requirement). That should give you some time to up your post count. Edited by Logan - June 02 2021 at 06:38 |

@Dark Ness: When I first joined the forums, I posted to the What Are You Listening To Right Now thread to up my post count so I could vote. It was one way to get involved without necessarily getting into a discussion. I like checking the thread out every now and then to get inspiration on what to listen to.

Hi, I'm a new member here. Therefore I'm not yet familar with the forum procedures. You are the organiser of this poll, aren't you? I hope I'm not late. This is a song that I would suggest. It is performed by Spanish singer Silvia Perez Cruz. The song appears in a documentary about the Spanish writer Ana Maria Moix. The song includes lyrics of a poem by that writer. I think it should fit the theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EXUe6Vchr4 Please let me know whether I can still participate. Cheers! Edited by Mila-13 - June 02 2021 at 17:54 |

First thoughts on some later entries, namely yam yam's addition & new from Dark Ness:
yam yam: Sandy Denny “All Our Days” as mentioned elsewhere, I’m a big fan of
Sandy’s and that takes her out of my voting range, it would make my job too
easy! But another stellar choice here,
with perfect production and orchestral flourishes.
Dark Ness:
Welcome to the polls, I can’t “see” your first selection, if you
indicate what it is, perhaps I can find it, this happens in different countries
sometimes. Cassandra Wilson “You Don’t
Know What Love Is “ I certainly like the
dark feeling of the acoustic guitar opening.
Her voice is haunting and has an enchanting break in it, in the first
verse. The guitar is slightly
discordant, almost like tears, which reflect the lyrics. A solo done on violin,
also discordant, which is extremely effective juxtaposed with the guitar and
her stark, emotive vocal. Very moving song, I love her deep voice. |

Wow, 26 entries. I know I'm not not Lorenzo (James Baldwin) and this is his call, but since all 25 slots are used (this has never happened in the series before), I'd be willing to remove my choice from the running to make way for yours. |

That's very considerate of you, but it's not a big deal to me. I've participated in loads of these, and while I always enjoy them, the mentioning of music and getting some feedback is already very satisfying. The forum software only allows up to 25 in the poll itself, which was full already. Of course one could break it up into multiple polls, have one mentioned and in the youtube playlist that people can write-in vote for while not being in the actual poll options, or we could have more than one song in one option. I'd go for the more than one in an option choice, I think, in this multiple choice poll since we write-in our three choices anyway aside from voting in the poll. For me the votes don't matter nearly as much as the listening to each other's choices and comments (not that we have to say something about those that people mention, and I only sometimes do -- that can be very time-consuming). So for instance, one poll option might have Celine Dione's My Heart Will Go On and On and On coupled with Heart's Dreamboat Annie (for a heart to heart option) and people could vote for either or both (from the three total votes, and then list what they chose). I'd very happily share a space, and this is not so that it seems at first glance like my option actually got any votes. ;) Up to Lorenzo though how he wants to go about with this. That said, there is a text limit and I think my option would need abbreviating to fit in with yours, and stylistically when I do multiple options in a poll line I tend to put them at the end (or alphabetically). Lorenzo has his order the way I do these. Also with the youtube playlist, it might now be easier putting it at the end. I don't know as I don't make the playlists. Still, very happy to share an option with you if okay with the Boss (Lorenzo is big on The Boss, aka Bruce Springsteen, and I doubt Bruce would mind, but it's up to Lorenzo, not Bruce, because Bruce is not the Boss of this poll, he's just The Boss generally, the definite article you might say). I don't think that last bit needed so much exposition. ;)

I can't say much about the poll options that you are suggesting but it would be certainly encouraging to me as a newbie if I had the chance to participate. The current theme is just perfect for me as a start in a new music forum. Let's wait and see what Lorenzo will decide. In any case, thank you for your kind offer. Much appreciated! I definitely would favour giving newbies a chance. I should warn you, you need 40 points before you can start voting. Right now you have four. You get two per post, but also five, I think, when someone thanks you. I'll add some thanks to your posts which will get you there faster. Hope to see you in the poll.

I may well be answering more than you are wondering about, but I try to cover various bases just in case. The points for voting in polls is an all-over forum/ board restriction which was enabled due to abuse. That info is found in the FAQ, though it changed somewhat as that says 40 posts not points: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13080 People were joining just to manipulate polls, which seems to me quite an amazing waste of time, and I know a lot about wasting time. As to the rules for this Interactive Poll, and with others from the series, that's in the first thread post. Each Interactive Poll can operate rather differently depending upon how someone sets it up (so careful reading of the original post commonly of each of those topics is necessary), but usually we mention one, two, three, or four songs that fit the theme, then we nominate one choice each, and then after all the track options are posted in the poll options we vote for three choices (other than your own choice) after listening to all of the nominations. One of the members usually prepares a playlist of the music (often for all that get mentioned, and then one for the actual nominations). I love these polls, but they do require more commitment, time and effort to participate than most of the things in the forum. It can be challenging, but that's also what I like about it. It gets us listening to a lot of music we might not hear otherwise. Like some others, I don't vote for ones I already know, or know well, but that is up to the individual. That helps to narrow it down for me since I usually want to vote for more than three. It's all quite simple, I just make things sound more confusing and complicated than they are.
