Three classics with Waterloo in the title, which do you like the most. Three very different songs, the whimsical Kinks song, the groovy Caravan song or the happy ABBA song.

All good songs, but The Kinks get the vote.

This, absolute classic song. Terry and July - supposedly Terence Stamp and Julie Christie.

Ray Davies keeps changing his mind about who it refers to. In his autobiography he said it was his cousin, Terry Cooper and his girlfriend. Add that to the fact it was originally written as Liverpool Sunset and I suspect Ray can't remember

Ah yes I'd forgotten about Liverpool. Still Terence makes a better story than Ray's cousin Terry.

Could be the basis for a new thread, celebs name-checked in songs like Susan Penhaligon in VDGG's 'Refugees'

I admit I didn't know the Caravan song before, listening now. I'm not a big fan of the Kinks, but "Waterloo Sunset" is clearly one of their better songs. Then there is Abba: It has some obvious pop appeal, and it is very catchy, but Abba made much better songs later on. As usually with Abba I admire the production values. If I remember correctly, the entire rhythm section was recorded twice to make a sort of Wall of Sound.

Admittedly, it's not part of the title, but UK's "Rendezvous 6.02" (from the Danger Money album) is the first Waterloo-oriented song I thought of.

This is the very first Waterloo song that came to my mind. A favourite of mine from when I was a wee sprog. Wellington was my favourite Womble, and I assumed he was named after the NZ capital, because that’s the way a child’s mind works. Trains were my favourite toy because Wellington liked trains.
