But many of their songs do not use violin.  So does that make them not prog? There's no flute in Dancing With The Moonlit Knight and Genesis never had violin. Does that mean Dancing With The Moonlit Knight is not prog? Is Heart Of The Sunrise not prog? Tarkus?

You are going to protest that that is not your point.  And I suggest you try to see my/our point. You are just making up rules based on what prog SOUNDED like in general in the 70s.  But the same bands disobeyed such rules many times on a song by song basis.  So why can a BAND as a whole not be prog simply because they don't incorporate flute or violin?

Have an even better example.  Marillion.  And yet, nobody even questions whether Marillion is prog because the similarities to Genesis are very apparent. But prog is not about one particular sound, never was.

Dude exactly; get it now today before it flips again. Yesterday it was shoe gaze with progressive elements; not worth nearly as much as just straight prog, like at this moment. HOLD! Lol.

This was a joke but I seriously did start with piling up bitcoin.  These trillion dollar printing presses evoke the roaring twenties for me. Hope it doesn't end badly but I want insurance for when it does.

If sh*t coin is fiat money, then yes.  Large scale debasement of currencies is not going to work out well.  Inflation will kick in at some point and start to bite.

There was a guy on my Prog FB page today saying Rush wasn't prog - his examples included hemispheres having only one side of prog music. On pointing out that Side two contained La villa strangiato he grudgingly agreed going on to tell me PM and MP contained no Prog but were Rock albums. I countered this with tracks like Jacob's Laddder, the Camera Eye etc which I think flummoxed him because I have had no reply.

Flummoxed = You been schooled!

Better question is for him to define to you what bands he thinks are prog.

Yup, the notion that a group like Rush never used a mellotron, or even mandolin and bouzouki, is down to unfamiliarly with an a artist that's not one of their favorites.
