Yes, Mike, the next is yours. You could open it on Thursday. And in the meantime give us some indications.

Ok I'll start Thursday evening, Friday at the latest.
I'm probably going to do a topic this time around, namely anything to do with water in the title or in the lyrics. Non-progressive only.

When I conceived these interactive polls (oh my God it's been a year!), I imagined the participation of 10-15 forumists, and so I thought it appropriate to vote for 3 songs. I think that even if the next poll (with mathman0806 commander in chief) will be around 20-25 songs we could evaluate the idea of voting for 5 songs. What do you think about it?

^ Lorenzo, I'm not sure if I'll participate for a while, but I think it is a good idea. If the "popular vote" of our team agrees, all is well. Though, it wouldn't matter for me much. Our previous rules were also OK.

On a second thought, 20-25 songs and choosing 5 among them sounds great!

we don't have 20-25 people for that to happen. Also 5 songs it's too many. 3 songs is perfect IMO.

Maybe a flexible number to vote on, if there are enough final entries to warrant it, go to 5 could be considered? As you can see, I do my top 3, then some honourable mentions. However, this one had so many great final choices, 5 would have made it a bit easier to make "final cut," decisions. But I don't always find that the case, either, most times 3 is just right.
Also, a different issue, I wonder, if for others, to find time to properly listen when people go way over 3 potentials, but I do find time...wonder about others, though? Not everyone is retired here with plenty of time to spare.

There is nothing wrong with the polls as they are now.
No need to change anything IMO.

Our latest poll had 20 participants... Edit: 19, ah the "smartass" option. Yet, as I said; this is not a big thing for me. It'll be fine for me either way. Though, I'm barely online nowadays as an active contributor. I sometimes surf the internet; as an aside, I'm mostly on Twitter. Rarely do I write anything on any platform. A moderate level "internet detox" perhaps? Edited by Shadowyzard - May 08 2021 at 14:29 |

I haven’t often participated, but three seems fine to me. I don’t see any good reason to change that to five.

When I start up, I am considering the suggestion to have the initial nomination thread and then make a voting thread for the final songs as Anders I think suggested. As for the number of final songs, we have ranged from 13 to 20. We should have had 20 this time if there was confirmation from Friede for Nina. Mike filled all slots with the one joker. If we get 20 to 25 final songs, I would be okay for 5 votes.

Not only do I deem this suggestion uncool and unnecessary; but also our polls, that way, would occupy too much space in the "Latest Forum Posts" section, and/or in the "General Music Discussions" subforum. Edited by Shadowyzard - May 08 2021 at 15:18 |

Anyway, whatever is/are decided upon, I'll be cool with it. Though, as I said, I might not be around for a while.

Regarding 3 or more votes, I think 3 is fine. More votes would just devalue each vote. Furthermore, we can always hide behind our Honourable or Special Mentions... Anyway, for me the voting is just the gimmick towards which we work, but the interesting part of these Interactive Polls happens before: the suggestions being put up, the discussion/commenting - that's all much more interesting than the voting itself. Also, I don't think it is that much of a good idea to dissociate the discussion thread from the final voting, just because we have an occasional troll. Up till now we have been decently working around that - let's not pay too much attention to childish behaviour and let us not make things less practical because of something that happens rather sporadically... My two euro-cents.

I think three votes are fine. Sometimes I have four, five, six, seven candidates but as long as it's a poll, I think it's part of the fun to decide where to make a cut. It may be due to my twisted nature but I actually like more to choose three and throw some out if in fact there are more I love, than to have to vote for five if there are three, four, or even five candidates for the podium. "Vote for all you like" polls don't hold that much attraction for me (I mean, the music can still be great of course but the voting is then boring). Regarding "too many" suggestions, indeed I don't have that much time and can't always listen to them all, but then I don't mind. There is so much potentially interesting music and people can post it if they like, and maybe because of this I discover something great, and maybe I don't listen to the odd thing, so be it. Re "open new thread for the voting" it seems to be a good idea, also if there's a playlist it is easier to find if on p. 1. The "too much space" argument by Shadowyzard makes some sense as well though.

This is the best answer, and matches my feelings. Honestly, I would find the Interactive Poll just as enjoyable and interesting if there were no poll at all. I can’t say I ever pay attention to the poll, apart from when I am casting my votes. I come to the “poll” to read what people put up for nomination, and why, and to read what other people say about the selections. I admit to being a bit of a lurker in this regard, happy more to read than contribute discussion - but it is definitely the conversation that drew me into the Interactive Poll posts, and not the poll itself. I would much rather see the nomination and voting remain in the same post, in spite of the actions of any troll(s), but I can appreciate why others may feel differently about this, |

Another endorsement for Kees' post . If people keep on trolling, we need to alert the mods and put a stop to it. Additionally, I also feel that five options would be too many. Let's keep it at three, and mention our runners-up (if any) in our posts.

Good points here!
Also, in our earlier polls, we were encouraging other people (that hadn't nominated a song) to feel free to vote in the polls too. So, Raff's admin intervention suggestion can be coupled with that inclusiveness, methinks; by making it clear that the voting process begins after the OP says so. Who is doing the next poll? I just got an idea, and would like to be added to the queue (provided there is one ).

I've got one as well. Do we do a poll to see what poll we'll be doing?
