Its a masterpiece. One more album like this and they'll end up on the archives.
C'mon boomers, who else feels me on this?!

Boomers? Are you trying to insult people or what's going on? WTF?! And no, I listened to a song from the album and it socked. Why does this band get a pass as retro-Led Zep influenced/inspired band and everyone else in the past got mocked?- Great White, Kingdom Come and Whitesnake. Always bothered me.

Not me. Technically I'm a Gen Xer. The music/musicianship is ok but derivative of the source material. The vocals are too much wannabe Plant crossing over into early Geddy Lee. I would rather listen to Rival Sons or Wolfmother if you want newer bands that mine 70s hard rock. |

Sorry, but anyone who thinks GVF is new and original is simply put ignorant. I assume anyone who is into rock music knows who Led Zeppelin is, so I don't see how anyone can think GVF is exciting and original. so the guys in GVF say they're influenced by Aerosmith, well then someone tell those kids Led Zeppelin were a big influence on Aerosmith. I do listen to my share of clone bands, I'll admit that, but this band is no fun for me. In fact GFV annoyed me quite a bit.

The Greta album is great but to me Greg Kurstin's production feels a bit too pristine and modern for that type of music.

[Maniacal laughter] Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! [/Maniacal laughter] I have no idea what generation I am (born in 1975, if that helps), but these guys are the most derivative drivel I have heard in a long time. I don’t even mind derivative music at times, and I’ve some in my cd collection. But this isn’t even impressive. I know everyone has their own opinion, and I know this band has a lot of fans. It doesn’t help that I’m not a great fan of Led Zep, so I was almost predisposed to dislike their debut. But when people told me that the second album had shed the Led Zep clone style, I figured I’d give them a second shot. They still do nothing for me, and they still sound completely unoriginal and uninspired. As can be seen by some of the bands that feature in PA, and top the yearly charts, there is plenty of retro music that wears its influences on its sleeves that is well-loved. But GVF ain’t there yet. I’m not writing them off, and I’ll give them another shot with their next album. But my hopes aren’t high..... |

I think that Greta Van Fleet definitely should hire a different producer (Roine Stolt maybe?) and start dabbling into pure prog vibes. Rapid time signature changes, synth doodlin, unpredictable instrumentation, angular textures, ARP/Solina breakdowns and so on. That would elevate them from good to frigging remarkable. :)

I was talking about people, even young ones, that listen to rock music. They know who led Zeppelin is. Metalheads know Led Zeppelin and appreciate a lot of their music.

you think the OP does not who Led Zeppelin is and thinks GFV is an original exciting band? Now that would be funny.

As a Boomer, I've learned that one should never settle for bullsh*t. Living in Michigan, I heard GVF very early on (they are from Frankenmuth, MI) -- and they were and are just another rock band. I don't have time to waste on just another rock band.
