I may well be missing something, still early, but what's the issue with this one? |

initially when I wrote my post, there was only the song title, who sings that.? Then I saw the video. I thought it was funny how newbies to our poll miss the point of what's going on here. My apologies, it was not my intention to upset anyone. Let's worry there are 4 votes already even with the fair warning of not voting yet.

Okay, I had noticed that the post was edited the same minute you posted your reply (just a few minutes after it was posted). I often edit my posts more than a few minutes after posting. You guys are so fast.
The voting is concerning, and I have been looking into it. Been logging some things, and I do have something, but I won't talk about the details here. I think it would be good for that which hath transgressed to come forward. Shoot me a PM if publicly ashamed to mention it, and I won't suspend you or tell others who you are, but I will then tell you to stop. I think it's just being playful rather than really malicious, and to the credit, it has not been voting on filled spaces. PM me and all will be forgiven. Edited by Logan - May 04 2021 at 07:43 |

I don’t know why the voting is concerning. Or, at least, I would hope my voting is not concerning. I don’t know who it is that is voting in the poll before options are even named, but I admit that as soon as the “there’s always one smart donkey” option was put up, I couldn’t resist adding (and adding) to the initial vote. After all, now that it has been declared and named null and void, it really doesn’t matter how many votes it accumulates. But I would be interested to know who it is that is voting there to begin with! [EDIT] You’ll never find me too ashamed to put my hand up for anything. I put my hand up about voting for Bowie before voting began last time, and I put my hand up to voting for being a smart donkey. But I’m definitely not the troll who seems to be trying to spoil things! Edited by nick_h_nz - May 04 2021 at 09:22 |

So far, the nominations I haven't heard from (as far as I can tell) are:
BaldFriede - Only one artist was posted, so you can either nominate that artist or someone else. Otherwise, I'll put Nina Hagen Band down as your nomination. Tancos - Suitkees - Forgive me if I missed someone. Let me know if I did. Also, there is one more day before voting starts, so it's still not too late to join in.

Thanks for coming forward on your part. I definitely have my suspicions as I have logged some activity around the time one of those votes happened, and some other things. There can be much elimination of potential suspects. I will say that I don't believe that it's someone evil (rather it's someone more just playful because that person has often voted low in the list which hasn't really interfered with the poll), so that's half the forum removed as suspects. ;) |

the trolling vote is a mockery, and if I'm being mocked, at least I'd like to know why.

^Agreed. The trolling vote is a mockery. I just wanted to point out that it wasn’t me. And I wouldn’t have voted on the smart donkey option if someone else hadn’t already put that option out of contention by voting on it.
As for it being mischievous, rather than malicious, I’m not convinced. Because, effectively, voting on an option (any option), not only before voting has begun, but before any of the options have even been filled by nominations, is taking them out of the running. Not that it has mattered yet, as there haven’t been enough nominations in the last few polls to need every line - but that’s not the point, really. If we did have more nominations, whoever it is that is voting, is potentially ruining the enjoyment for the rest of us. |

First thoughts, pages 3 & 4, with a few additions:
Raff: Lucio Dalla "Com'è profondo il mare" Atmospheric
background sound at the start, building some suspense. Synths kick in, bass and drums, then
whistling. Video is very striking,
visually (the child on the rock has just a most beautiful face). A semi-spoken-semi-sung vocal, in what I’ve
come to know and note as an “Italian-style vocal.” Thank you for the lyrics, they are very
moving and help explain to me where the violence comes into the video. Giuni
Russo "Un'estate al mare"
This one has more of a pop feel from the beginning, a seductive female
vocal here. A happy song of the
pleasures of the beach in summer. Cristi: Smetana “Vitava” Very familiar with this piece,
just not this particular performance. A
favourite of mine. Live orchestra,
begins with lilting flutes, then more woodwinds, certainly a watery feel to
this. Strings enter, some harp and brass. , all beautifully performed. Crescendo
builds, swells, then fades into the next part with happy strings at the
fore. Halfway, and back to the
flutes. You really do get a feeling of
being on a river with this, so evocative, as it moves through all of the
sections, with the second crescendo and reprise of the main theme and the
triumphant ending. George: Gustavo Santaolalla “Iguazu” Knew I would love this, just from the
instrumentation. I have not heard it, or
at least saw “Brokeback Mountain,” so long ago, I don’t remember hearing
it. Just the kind of thing I love. Subtle, yet quite dramatic. Almost Middle Eastern in feel with the
violin. Lewian: Comsat Angels “At Sea” Here is a more rocky, 80’s kind of sound,
repetitive, but not without interest for it.
Comes almost to a halt at center, then back into the main theme, before
ending. JD: Challenge Entry, UV Glow Contact Lenses ~ video
advert for them? Actually, kind of an
interesting, quavery voice and marimba/vibe-like sounds, kinda spooky. A bit gothy. Scott:
Flaming Lips “Smoke on the Water” cover
Already has me smiling at the start, with a really cheesy sounding
keyboard sound. Bass enters, there are
some little sonic blips and the vocalist speaks the lyrics. Very, very fuzzy lead guitar with choir-like
vocals behind it about 2/3rds in. They
certainly turn it into their own, gotta give ‘em credit for that. The Anders: Gisela May with Bertolt Brecht’s “Das Lied von der Moldau” A typical Brecht piece, semi-operatic in feel, very spare production behind the strident female vocalist. Pretty, watery piano accents from time to time. Tancos: Hot Tuna “Water Song” As expected, some fine guitar and bass playing here. Nice, bouncy rhythm with steady drums and bass, the guitar has a Kottke or Fahey kind of vibe. Definitely a feeling of being on the SF area coast and driving, watching the sea change. Shugo Tokumaro “Green Rain” A completely different feel with this one, repetitive keys (or accordion or?) Japanese vocals with some odd syncopation and a very odd video. What have they been indulging in? Hard to describe, sort of almost absurdist, also a sense of whimsical happiness. Eubie Blake “Fizz Water” Light-hearted ragtime piece, with full orchestra. Also a sense to me of vaudeville with some humour in the mix. A pleasant romp in the style of it’s day. Michael Chapdelaine “Ran Dance” More fine acoustic guitar playing here. Lots of fancy fingerpicking, like rain falling, with a nod to a Native American sort of sound. Fantastic artist, thank you for the intro to him. suitkees: Tindersticks
“Whiskey & Water” And back to rock,
washy guitars, drums and keyboards set the stage for drama here, it sounds
like. Twangy lead guitar and maybe some
violin, it sounds like. Spoken vocal. I really love the drama of the music, not so
much, the vocal. Song ends in a bit of
chaotic cacophony (in a very good way, to my ear), and goes back into the main
melody before it ends abruptly. Moon Ate The Dark “She /
Swimming” Lovely piano beginning, slowly
building and becoming very gradually more complex. Very contemplative and minimalist feel, we’ll
see if that continues. Some electronic
shimmers are added in and softly swell. Piece
softly finishes. Beautiful! Jean-Louis “À la morte fontaine” And now we have a somewhat folky-raga feel
with guitar and drums. So, a song of
being enchanted by a water-spirit, I would think from the hint of your
lyrics. An excellent choice, at least
for my taste. Angelo
Branduardi “La pulce d’acqua” Pretty
acoustic guitar and a lilting vocal with happy woodwinds, and later, full orchestra,
makes me think of water sprites dancing along sun-lit waters. A Renaissance-era
feel to it. Edited by Snicolette - May 04 2021 at 13:02 |
