It's another Empty Sky above Nottingham today with barely any passenger planes flying over the city since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak. I'm listening to Elton John right now and I'm reminded that there's a Tumbleweed Connection with our empty cities, which have been like virtual ghost towns during lockdown. It conjures up images of tumbleweed blowing down empty streets with shuttered shops and closed  pubs and restaurants where we used to dine out with Friends in happier times gone by. Covid-19 has given rise to all sorts of batty conspiracy theories from the likes of David Icke and Alex Jones - the arch-conspiracy theorist  and Madman Across the Water in America. Anyway, it's best just to get on with living our lives as normally as possible, as we can't all live in isolation in some Honky Chateau in the heart of France. By the way,  I wonder how many people know that Elton John was a good friend of Groucho Marx... At a party attended by the pair, Groucho held up a thumb and forefinger in the shape of a pretend gun, and Elton held up his hands and said "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Player Player". True story! After that preamble, it's time for another Top 7 albums poll, where Elton's classic Goodbye Yellow Brick Road must be the hot favourite to win, with the dismal follow-up album Caribou unlikely to pick up any votes at all. Gus Dudgeon disparagingly called the album "a piece of crap"  - and he was the producer! And so, it's on with the show, with a man whose stage outfits are as outrageously over-the-top as Captain Fantastic himself. Smile

Simply list your Top 7 Elton John albums in order of preference and then I'll assign the usual system of points to your listings as shown below:-

1st album - 12 points
2nd album - 8 points
3rd album - 6 points
4th album - 4 points
5th album - 3 points
6th album - 2 points
7th album - 1 point

Here's my Top 7 to get the poll underway:-

1. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (12 points)
2. Duets (8 points)
3. The One (6 points)
4. Blue Moves (4 points)
5. Empty Sky (3 points)
6. Madman Across the Water (2 points)
7. Friends (soundtrack) (1 point)

A pattern is already emerging. Although there are a few albums that are not shared by (m)any, there are some definite contenders for the top seven. Even if you were not to weight them, I think it’s still reasonably obvious what they will be.

Tumbleweed, Tumbleweed, Tumbleweed!

- Tumbleweed
- Madman
- Elton John
- GYBR
- Chateau
- Don't Shoot
- Empty Sky

I should mention that albums like Caribou, Westies and Blue Moves get a lot more time on the turntable than any of these albums simply 'cause I've worn copies of each flat during the formative years.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

Tumbleweed Connection is perhaps the best americana styled album made by a non-american, alongside Gary Rafferty/Steelers Wheeler releases

It's good to see the final Top 7 includes most of Elton John's classic albums from the early 1970's era. Thumbs Up

I thought the syrup was what Elton wore on his head, as in "syrup of figs" - Wig. Tongue
