I think we need 2 more nominations - rushfan4 and mathman - and we can start voting.

Well, since A Crimson Mellotron picked a different Deep Purple track from the album my track came from, I will nominate The Who song This Gun Will Misfire.

This was a very good round, and these three that are all new to me made a big impression on me, as did some others, but we are limited to three..
Nits - The Electric Pond (I really dug this, and need to check out, or pick out one might more aptly say, more louse-y nits. One of my favourites of the whole series) Iggy Pop - Loves Missing (well this isn't missing love from me, and great to hear later Iggy still pops) The Fall - Mountain Energei (this won't fall off my list of choices) Edited by Logan - April 24 2021 at 14:42 |

Deep Purple - Man Alive (A Crimson Mellotron). Begins with a deep "sacred" choir. The atmosphere is quite spacy, and not something I would normally associate with Deep Purple. Then it turns into a more rocky section with a heavy guitar riff. It's considerably more proggy than the classic Mark II Purple which - to be honest - is still my main preference. Sci-fi does not appeal to me, and this is no exception. Musically it's not bad of course, just not really my taste. Iggy Pop - Loves Missing (Nick). With the "Godfather of Punk" we're more into a universe I can relate to. He's not become a better singer through the years, but like with many other artists in a similar vein, that's just what makes it special and gives it the necessary edge. I think perhaps he is better than the actual song, but I like its hypnotic feel and the way it builds up. It will most likely improve on me after a second listening, and I belive it should be a possible contender. Are there any more last minute additions to the poll? An observation: Apart from the contributions from Shadowyzard and me, this edition (the final nominations) is very anglophone. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I miss the songs in f.e. Italian, Romanian or Portuguese (Meltdowner) - they make the editions more diverse.

Thoughts on the last-minute additions:
A Crimson Mellotron:
Deep Purple “Man Alive” Begins
with orchestral sounds and some spacy/electronic-y vocals. I like the repetitive synth sounds. Percussion kicks in and the synths swell,
then full band comes in, and volume increases.
Nice DP organ sounds underneath.
I like how the piece uses dynamics to keep interest. Lead guitar comes in after some orchestral
parts with narration, then back to rock vocals.
Narration continues with a cinematic orchestral ending. Nick_h_nz: Iggy Pop “Loves Missing” In true Iggy style, here, and what else would do? I like Iggy. I got to see him in the peanut butter days. Thuddy drums and simple chords with truth-telling lyrics, twangy guitar parts over. I heard/saw this when it came out, so I can’t vote for it. What a moving artist he is. Just wonderful, strips it all down to the basics. He reminds me so much of Johnny Cash, oddly, or perhaps not oddly. Yeah, love’s missing, but not from my reaction to this song. |

a good observation, maybe we should have a non-English songs round. Hope the English speakers won't get upset then.

I think that’s a great idea. I suspect my musical collection is probably about 50/50 between English sung releases and not, but even that could be said to be very Anglophone. I guess the thing is that so much is sung in English, even by non English speakers. I prefer hearing people sing in their native language, but I suspect that of the bands and artists that are more popular in the English speaking world (even in an esoteric domain such as the one we dwell in), most choose to sing in English, rather than their own language. |

I don't think we would mind. We did this in Interactive Poll #5. We should revisit some previous themes. |

Burnt Friedman and Jaki Liebezeit are actually German, despite the first guy's name (which isn't his real name, which is Bernd Friedmann). A-Ha and Nits sing in English but are Norwegian and Dutch if I'm not mistaken.
