STILL LIFE - People In Black

I can find very little biographic information on this band, but the music is great!

I don’t think there is much information on them.

The whole lp is up on you tube ....
I downloaded a copy a few years back from I Tunes I think...., I was exploring early proto-prog things and their name came up. Not bad...heavy prog ...some Uriah Heep similarities imo.
Original copies on Verttigo swirl go for big bucks,,,reissues aren't cheap either.

I bet psychedelic Paul knows this one. Wink

Actually a long time ago someone sent me a bunch of prog cdrs. For some reason I got rid of them(gave them to someone). Anyway, this was one of them although I only played it once. It was very organ driven early prog with just keys, bass and drums I think(as well as vocals). Not bad but probably not one of the very best of it's era. There was another really good one that was similar from the same time period but I don't remember the name of it. I might edit this later if I remember what it was.

Probably also a bit similar to Rare Bird and maybe even VDGG except for the vocals (there is only one PH).

I didn't hear any VDGG ...to me it's classic proto prog rock...tones of Heep, Spooky Tooth, Quatermass, , Rare Bird , early DP etc...

Well, to me the VDGG similiarity is just because of the organ.

The one thing I noticed about them after looking at the link I posted(the PA link) is that I was surprised they were a four piece band. I guess I always assumed they were a three piece band just because there's no guitar.

Glad to see it's not completely unknown.

I saw the PA info on them, but didn't want to cop anyone's text.

Another one-and-done, apparently. I saw that LP on Discogs... $450?? Haha!

Just read it. Outstanding review Paul. Just order a copy...the cd not the Vertigo swirl album.

Very good album, it has that warm, autumnal sound of the early British prog which I love. I have a repress of this from Akarma records, very nice indeed. I always play the song "October Witches" when I DJ at the local metal pub. It has a nice, heavy and occult feel to it.
