Two incredible pieces of program music - two suites that take you as a listener on a unique journey. What makes the Four Season and the Planets so spessial and unique (to me) is their wholesome feel, very few pieces just have thar feeling of completion , from bookend to bookend. They tackle their concepts you as listener are guided through wide variation and array of moods, themes, motives and dynamic shifts. The pieces spans 250 years between them in orchestral music with the evolution and changes that is brought throug time.
I found a recording by Mayfair Philharmonic Orchestra which made a recording of both pieces in one setting called Gustav Holst and Antonio Vivaldi: Planets and Seasons. https://open.spotify.com/album/6uQPkErspN9AAkg0auQues?si=U3sbe5LdTYqY2M4xtgalTw&utm_source=copy-link Edited by Icarium - March 26 2021 at 15:33 |

Holst, simply because I heard Vivaldi too often back when I still listened to the radio.

Neither belong to my favourite pieces, especially not Vivaldi. My vote goes to Gustav Holst.

Love both but Antonio Vivaldi - the Four SeasonsOver the years. I’ve had numerous formats of Antonio Vivaldi - the Four Seasons it’s a absolute favourite piece ever since hearing my first ever recording in a music lesson in high school.
