I think its a fair question and actually what got ELP downgraded compared to the likes of Pink Floyd and few others , even Camel the least innovative prog band of all time. My feeling is that you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. ELP broke the whole chicken coup. I think its a fun thing and bands that use it have a sense of 'occasion'. Those sniffy about it tend to have a problem identifying what fun is. Prog generally was fun until it went up its own bum. Critics were right about that one point except that Bombast was never the issue but complexity for the sake of it , maybe. Yep another comment on the demise of prog rock!
