I played cello in a performance of the Saint-Saëns piece like 15 or
16 years ago. I didn't know about the Ton Scherpenzeel version, thank
you. I love that piece and definitely want to check that out.

Funny, suitkees, I was thinking of possibly using an animal theme for the next Interactive Poll that I'm presenting in a few weeks. Great minds!
I am not a good singer whatsoever, but my dogs have always liked me to sing to them. One of my dogs, when I first got him, was really noise-sensitive, and it took me a while for him to listen to my harp practice (no, I'm not THAT bad! LOL). Eventually, he came to quite enjoy hanging out at my feet when I played. He never did learn to tolerate the sound of the psaltery though (played with a bow), so I still haven't learned to play that. This particular dog, loved a song I made up about going to doggie daycare, which he loved to do, so whenever I would start to sing that song, he'd jump up and come running, wagging his tail. When my husband was alive, all the dogs and cats would flock to the music room whenever he played piano, in particular. I also have a friend who has an African Grey parrot, who is very particular about the music he likes and doesn't like, and lets her know in no uncertain terms about it. |

^Our pup seems to think we're in distress when we sing. Everything from Peter Gabriel to Happy Birthday gets her wound up and acting very concerned for our well being. Could it be we're not as good as we think we are? And when I start bopping around to Yes, Joe Jackson or Thomas Dolby I think she's afraid I'm having some sort of convulsion. Dogs !

Nice stories! Sometimes my cat gets a bit restless when she hears a theremin, but she gets used to it rather quickly and only twitches her ears when there's something new going on...
