Yeah, Rick covers all sorts of topics. I was just watching one of his music theory videos. One of the best channels on YT, right there.

Thanks for posting! I saw that earlier...........Alex is such a cool guy and his playing is so melodic and tasteful. Very cool well played riffs, like Geddy said he had to come in and figure out how to add in his parts after Neil and Geddy built the rhythm section all the while not being bombastic and on top of every song as many guitarists feel they need to be. Plus every band has to have the token goof-ball/comedian.......

Haven't seen the Lifeson interview yet, but the Rolling Stone interview with Geddy Lee is a great read. Thanks for pointing us to it!

It's good to hear that Alex will be thinking about starting to think about maybe possibly thinking about recording some new music for release....maybe .
TBH, I really think we will see him guest spot on other bands albums more than anything, as he is pretty adamant that future touring is not in his wheelhouse anymore. Also looking forward to him remixing and reissuing Victor. |

I'd rather Alex work on a sequel to Victor than remix it...

Yes, both interviews they mention wanting to do something, not 100% just together but that could happen. And I highly doubt it will be called Rush as so many on the WWW are making claim or suggesting who they should get as a drummer. Alex was more detailed about it saying he is feeling more comfortable playing now and has some ideas. I really see him gusting on albums or a part of some project band, he's also getting a lot of attn for playing with Marco Minnemann and Fu Manchu. I see the balance of his career as a session guitarist and guesting on bands albums as well he contributes a lot of ideas/songs/riffs to bands like he did with Fu Manchu. Alex was very stern about not wanting to tour at all anymore. Geddy is a harder read as I think he misses the road and playing live, it's clear of the three he has suffered the least with musician issues like tendinitis or any hand issues like Alex has fought. Geddy has stated many times when he is sick he makes sure everyone knows it, he never holds that in like say Neil was known to do. I could see Geddy being a part of a band but man with who and what kind of music........If Yes would tour I am sure he would beg them to let him be the bass player, maybe even tour with Daltrey and Townsend.

^There's probabably a 99 percent chance that Alex and Geddy will work together again but a 0 percent chance that if they do they will call it Rush.

Whatever they call themselves there's no rule that says they can't play Rush songs though. I don't see why that wouldn't happen. It probabably wouldn't be just Rush songs though. I get the feeling they want to make new music together and at some point play that stuff live(depending on what the state of the world is like when that happens otherwise live just means in a studio over zoom).

Can't see them playing live. TBH I wouldn't want them to do old material, without Neil that would be a pale imitation of former glory. I don't think Alex can play those songs anymore anyway, you can hear him struggle on the live material. No disrespect intended, his hands got sick! Likewise, Geddy's voice was shot to pieces.
OTOH, some instrumental stuff, perhaps not a million miles from My Favourite Headache or Victor would be cool. Of course all this assumes it's ever going to happen. But some new studio material would be welcome. I just don't think the live arena is the right path. IMHO

Listen to the Alex interview, he seems pretty stern he has no desire to tour, he said being on the road away from family for 40yrs is enough.
If they do music together I think it will be new studio content or guesting on other bands albums, it seems Geddy is the only one has not said no to touring, but he would be on his own probably. Alex has had hand issues over the past 10yrs, but he mentioned they feel much better now. As far back as the Rush In Rio DVD, Alex mentioned hand issues.

Rush material will most certainly get played, but I bet they won't open with it, and they probably won't frontload the show with Rush tunes, either. I'd expect them to play every new song they make, along with some Victor and Headache stuff in order to delay playing Rush songs (or even relegate them to encores). This all feels like it's a while off, anyway — the second half of 2022, at the earliest. |

I wouldn't be surprised if they played some live dates, just because.

My dream scenerio would be that they both team up with Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman and do some new music... I guess that would be even better than the AWR thing that never recorded in the studio. Now for a drummer, I guess some might laugh at the idea, but I would like Portnoy with them.

That might be fun, Jon and Rick, but no Portnoy. Alex has worked already with Marco Minnemann so they have some chemistry. Portnoy has not worked with any of these legends, he's fine where he is . I'm not holding my breath for any of this to happen before 2022, late.
