1. Liturgy - "Origin of the Alimonies" (Classical-based music with brutal outbursts done tastefully makes this band the best of the experimental/post metal bands)
2. Le Grand Sbam - "Furvent" (As always, this band is unique and amazing, but this album is even better than usual)
3. The Reticent - "The Oubliette" (Powerful, emotional, experimental at times, the best concept album of the year and it hits you hard)
4. Weserbergland - "Am Ende der Welt"  (Inventive and dynamic, explores so many styles and never gets boring, at times very unpredictable)
5. Bangladeafy - "House Fly"  (Noise rock at it's best, even as an EP.  I love it enough that even as and EP it gets a top 5 spot on my list)
6. Nick Prol & The Proletarians - "An Erstwhisle Alphabestiary - Book One" (Interesting, inventive and original, quality prog at it's best)
7. Immortal Onion - "XD (Experience Design)" (Intriguing and unique, Eclectic in the best sense of the word)
8. Cryptic Ruse - "Unfertile"  (A discovery of mine, use of microtonal sound, heavy and moving at the same time, this year's "Spidermilk" with the lead vocalist from "The Mercury Tree" as a guest vocalist)
9. Hibiscus Biscuit - "Reflection of Mine"  (Love the retro-instrumental sound of this one, solid and entertaining)
10. Good NightOwl - "Liars" (This one's strength lays in the beautiful vocal harmonies and enticing melodies)
11. Sound Goat Project - "Deep Inside"  (Heavy and solid, but also dynamic and interesting)
12. Pattern-Seeking Animals - "Prehensile Tales"  (Excellent use of progressive styles, more accessible than most of the music on my list, but a very creative use of differing styles)
13. JG Thirlwell & Simon Steensland - "Oscillospira"  (Fun and fascinating, intriguing and original)
14. Schnellertollermeier - "5"  (Love the avant-ness of this one, pan-head glory)
15. French TV - "Stories Without Fingerprints"  (This one is labeled as what it would sound like if "French TV" did a fusion album)
16. Magick Brother & Mystic Sister - "Magick Brother & Mystic Sister"  (Beautiful harmonies, wandering melodies and lovely with plenty of inventiveness to keep it interesting throughout.)
17. Ghost Toast - "Shape Without Form"  (Sometimes bizarre and other times sensible, this one crosses the line back and forth between odd and normal)
18. Breidablik - "Omicron"  (A moving electronic album that manages to be dynamic and interesting even if it is one very long composition)
19. Emme Phyzema - "Chronic Bronchitis"  (This band is one of the most exciting of the year with it's originality, this space is actually reserved for all of Emme Phyzema's albums)
20. Kilter - "Axiom"  (Another very original metal band that uses a saxophone instead of a lead guitar.  Yet it's still quite brutal.  Stretches the boundaries of metal)

Honorable mentions:
Cary Grace - "Lady of Turquoise" (I keep coming back to this one often just when I want to chill out a bit and get my dose of psych)
Tim Bowness & Peter Chilvas - "Modern Ruins"  (Probably the most beautiful project from Bowness since his "No-man" days)
The Physics House Band - "Metropolis"  (An interesting and usually noisy jazz fusion album done in a live setting to demonstrate the power this band has)
The Light in the Ocean - "The Pseudo-Scientific Study of Oceanic Neo-Cryptid Zoology"  (Not as good as last year's album, but still quite good.)
Frogg - "The Golden Path"  (Interesting yet mature sound from this new band, a female-led metal band that stood out from all of the others last year)
Sanguine Hum - "A Trace of Memory"  (A favorite band that continues to put out quality neo-prog)
Pure Reason Revolution - "Eupnea"  (An exciting return to form, it's good to see PRR return to a full-fledged prog album especially after their last misdirected album)

Between work and my insatiable appetite for music, coupled together with a frustratingly slow recovery process (trying to kickstart the left side of my body y’all!) this last year has been a strange, painful, fruitful and incredibly slow one.
I have bought so many “new” cds that my apartment literally looks like it’s hiding a portal to a cd-shop somewhere and stuff just seems to materialise magically...on the table, the shelves, in drawers and of course lying casually on socks. I’ve bought a few from 2020 but the majority of the music I’ve heard from last year has been via streaming/jootoob/bandchamp.
Best new find has definitely been Sea Orm’s Olkhon. Basically Ángel Ontalva and the Fedotov brothers off Vespero doing their thang..and Holy Navajo that is some serious medicine man music..and I really dig the fact that they themselves know it full well and sure enough have adorned the front cover with the appropriate Indian seance

For one reason or another I buy albums all over the place timewise, and not normally in the same year, so I have only fully heard small handful of prog albums of 2020 (the best of which probably Pyramid by Jaga Jazzist, but it should be possible to top this). However I'll mention my 2020 non-prog favourite which is good enough to probably survive as no. 1 all kinds of later discoveries. It's Slow Glass by Stephen Fellows (first album of the former Comsat Angels singer/guitarist/songwriter in 23 years).

I'm a little late to the party but this is my top seven in no particular order:
Wobbler- Dwellers Of The Deep
Zopp- s/t
Motorpsycho- The All Is The One
Sonar- Tranceportation 2
Thirwell/ Steensland- Oscillospira
The Tangent- Auto Reconnaissance
Pendragon- Love Over Fear

With all the lock downs that year the final two albums on my list had to have been a comfort to many.
