"M" eighteen places behind "Blade Runner"? And behind "Rio Bravo"? Ridiculous!

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (#486) made the list, and the half way point no less. That alone should say all that needs to be said about this list. |

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Wow - I didn't even look at the list except the first few.. I hope there isn't a bunch of newer movies to satisfy certain folks.. "M" is the greatest thriller ever (I think).. A 10/10.. I fell asleep watching "Blade Runner" in college, and I'm an insomniac. I didn't like "Rio Bravo" and don't think I'd ever try to watch a movie with Dean Martin in it.

I hated A.I, other than Jude Law.
I love Dekalog, but that's a ten part series of films made for TV and would sooner expect to see it on greatest TV series (or mini-series) list. I was most interested in the methodology and reasons given for including which and why in that order (the hows and whys). I have a problem with greatest lists, and looking up info on it I see that its compiled from over 6000 critics lists. I guess it's sort of interesting in terms of stats, but not something I would take seriously in the realm of film studies or even as a guide of what to check out. I did like the Sight & Sound top 250 list, and BFI's top 100. You've probably already checked this out MSF, but this site is good: https://www.sensesofcinema.com |

Interesting that Gertrud is on the list. It was not well received at the time.

If it was up to me, there wouldn't be a single movie by Spielberg.. I actually don't recognize that site, but I'm not into movies from the last 40 years. I do see some directors like Hal Ashby, Altman, etc., but its information I already know... Let me know if there's something I'm missing.. I think I spend more time bookmarking sites, but not usually following up with them. Thanks!

They have fine articles covering all periods of cinema. The search isn't woring right for me off the homepage. I chose the first director name to come to my mind in more classic cinema just now, Antonioni: https://www.sensesofcinema.com/2002/great-directors/antonioni/ I like the sites best that aren't so much just about lists, but have in-depth articles (not just about films but about film theory). I used to have a tonne of good ones bookmarked but that was earlier in the millenium. Nothing wrong with focusing on the classics, but I love films from every period. It was actually mostly films from the 80s and 90s that made me want to do Film Studies (Zhang Yimou and Kieslowski being two very important directors to me at the time). Anyway, some navigation issues with the site at the moment, but there's a lot to delve into there. By the way, two of the first books on film that I read and were a great into were The Oxford History of World Cinema and The Oxford Guide to Film Studies (neither read for school), but that was back in the 90s (not that it would matter much if it hasn't been updated for your tastes). I found various Oxford and Cambridge press books on film to be wonderful reading. Edited by Logan - January 27 2021 at 11:31 |

I was going to look through the list and count how many I've seen but gave up soon.
![]() Glad to see Persona and Sunset Boulevard so high though.

Hi,
I really dislike seeing those kinds of lists, although it is nice to see a lot of foreign films listed for a change, although I would not include them in a list of American fluff Hollywood films that really are not that great but somehow a silk screen in color makes it great! WEIRD! I was about to count the films I have seen in the first page (1000), but could not continue and lost my place a couple of times (bad eyes!) ... but at the very least the list contains a lot of foreign things to watch ... but sadly many folks won't bother seeing them ... and will consequently miss out on some really well done and far out stuff with a lot less budget and money wasted like Hollywood has for so many years ... The bigger question is, when will the film companies around the world, will be able to get back into business ... and if the marketplace is still going to be manipulated by the number of screens and folks seeing a film ... which I think is just about ready to get started on streaming direct to your IP, as a way to get a sale and come up with some numbers ... but just like the music business the "studios" are afraid of streaming and their (seemingly) inability to control the money coming in ... ohhh, btw, did you know that for more than 50 years the movie studios owned the majority of all the music copyrights in America, including the (of course!!!!!) ALL RECORDING STUDIOS, which according to Tom Dowd was a problem for Black musicians across the country who could not get a record made because one of the studio "stars" was the one that got the deal since they already had some fame to their name! Interesting how things are turning out and hopefully we will be able to see more foreign film, as the internet turns everything into a global economy ... except England ... I'm not purchasing anything from them whatsoever ... due to their Brexit deceit. It is, however, a fairly nice listing of films, at least in the first 1000 ... but how the heck did anyone vote, and who?

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
