Most of their music is upbeat, chaotic, circus-like punk rock (to put it simply).
'Dog like Sparky' or 'Tarred and feathered' are good songs to start with (that's if you haven't heard them already of course)

Thanks! Also reminds me a bit of Sparks and a touch of the B52's. I'm not into the more punk bits, but love the wackiness and horn bits. A little bit too much on crack for me though. I kept hearing their name though, so glad to listen.

I'll stick to the 60/70s, avoid the biggest names.

-Curved Air
-Illusion
-Carol of Harvest
-Savage Rose
-Mellow Candle
-Cressida
-Sandrose
-Mother Superior
-Earth & Fire
-Spirogyra

Awesome list, thanks!

Yes, I love Curved Air, good pick. Air Cut is such a good album, I'll be sure to check them out some more.

Another good call with Earth & Fire - I like their Song of the Marching Children album. I'll check out their other early albums.

Same with Spirogyra - I've listened to St. Radigunds a bit. Will listen more!

I've enjoyed Cressida too - wish they were on Spotify.

The others are new to me, so I'll have a listen.

I doubly recommend everything on Mort Sahl Fan's list, as well as the 132 prog albums I've reviewed so far. Smile

Ok, checked out the other suggestions. Spot on, all good on the list, and love to have more women musicians in my library.

Check out this playlist that I came across while trying to find some of it on Spotify:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5ObiCcL0WLYD0g7RRlGS0b?si=2ycWtoIiSkiBjeLIBc5czg

An interesting one to explore it seems.

Thanks! I have enjoyed Harmonium a bit. And I was into Focus' Moving Waves for a bit, but kinda got out of it. Appreciate the reccs.

Then you might as well check out Hamburger Concerto too.

A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip from Sparks was my favorite non-Prog LP for 2020.

You want a Prog recommendation? How about Motorpsycho's latest, The All Is One
It has something for every Prog fan, I think.

Just a thought, but you might want to check out Astra's The Weirding.  They are a more modern band with an original but vintage sound.  For a modern band with a happier, upbeat sound I would go with Moon Safari, maybe Blomjud or their Lover's End trilogy.

^He stated earlier he doesn't care for more modern stuff(even retro sounding)because of the production.

I don't recall particularly loving it when I once listened, but I'll give it another go!

Thanks! Sparks is great, glad they're still producing.

It’s kind of amusing how many recommendations are being made that are not taking into account the stated preferences of the person asking for them! 😄 🍿🍿🍿

Astra was recommended because they have a vintage sound.  I thought that might appeal to his closed mindedness to modern production.  I recommended Moon Safari because he said he was currently in the mood for listening to positive upbeat music.  I did note that both bands were modern because of his preference and if doesn't want to listen to them, then it is his loss, but I felt that both recommendations met his preferences aside from the fact they were modern.

I wasn’t having a go at you. I recommended a modern band myself, albeit one who went for authentic vintage analog production. I think AFlowerKC was just making a statement about having a vintage sound not necessarily being analogous with having vintage production.

Yep. I don't pay that much attention to production to be honest but that doesn't mean others don't. I even mentioned Anglagard but then after he said he only wanted modern stuff I stopped mentioning newer bands. But yeah, he said it was more about the production like you said.

If you like early Genesis, have a listen to Unifaun (sadly just the one album)

Thanks for the suggestion, but they're a bit too much of a knockoff for me.
